Future University Hakodate is a public university in the city of Hakodate, Japan. It opened in 2000 with the Systems Information Science School, and departments of Media Architecture and Complex Systems Science. In 2003, the university opened their graduate school, and their status as a Public University Corporation was established in 2008.
The university¡¯s mission is to ¡°design society¡± and act as a regional centre for knowledge creation. Every year, the university hosts the Hakodate International Science Festival, a regional support network.
Students have access to a range of facilities at Future University, such as the museum, atelier and presentation bay. They can become involved in several clubs and sporting societies, such as baseball and IT club. The university also has three centres for staff and student research: Meta-Learning, University Society Relations and Collaboration and Information System Design.
At Future University Hakodate, courses are offered in media architecture and complex systems science at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Media architecture courses include information design and information systems. Complex systems science courses include the intelligent systems course.
Hakodate is Hokkaido¡¯s third largest city, located in the Southern part of the island. It has a history of trade, with the opening of its Edo port, and having a role in the development of Hokkaido. Hakodate¡¯s current focus is on fishing and tourism, with the bullet train stopping at Hakodate¡¯s station. It¡¯s also known for the spectacular views from Mount Hakodate. Other attractions include Motomachi, the former residential area of foreign traders, the morning market, and Onuma Park.
