About this position:?

The group of Radek Marek at the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC), Masaryk University, is looking for a?doctoral student in supramolecular chemistry. If you are passionate about studying the supramolecular properties of anticancer metallodrugs, this is the perfect opportunity for you! In particular, we explore ligand modifications and host-guest complementarity between platinum-based metallodrugs and macrocyclic carriers (cucurbiturils) and their effects on the biological response.

You will have access to a?modern chemistry lab and state-of-the-art NMR instruments at our local core facility for regular use. Comprehensive training in supramolecular and NMR techniques will be provided to the successful candidate.

We are seeking a?creative, independent, and motivated individual with relevant experience in fields such as structural chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, bioinorganic chemistry. If you have experience in supramolecular chemistry or metallodrugs, we particularly encourage you to apply.

You will join the vibrant?Flexible Nanoelectronics?team at the University of Southampton working on nanofabrication of flexible electronic devices using solution-based advanced materials for application in the Internet of Things and neuromorphic computing.

You will carry out the fabrication of opto/electronic devices, using photolithography and physical vapour deposition techniques. You will work in the state-of-the-art Zepler clean rooms of the Optoelectronics Research Centre, and in particular, the Southampton Nanofabrication Centre (advanced research cleanroom for novel electronic and optoelectronic devices), the Teaching and Research Cleanroom (UG and MSc teaching; early fabrication training centre for PhDs and device prototyping), the Integrated Photonics Cleanroom (cleanroom for processing novel optical materials for optoelectronic devices) and the Hybrid Material and Devices Lab (thin film characterisation and optoelectronic devices characterisation lab). You will be involved in pushing the boundaries of new emerging technologies and assisting our community of researchers and students to develop their ideas to reality. You will be encouraged to develop your own research ideas and contribute to the research activities of the Flexible Nanoelectronics Lab.

The role includes fabricating samples for projects following and improving on standard practices, preparing samples for other users, learning new equipment and understanding it sufficiently to teach new users. You will receive extensive training and support from the current users as you develop the skills necessary for the job.

There will be a requirement to travel to project meetings, workshops and dissemination activities across the UK and overseas.

Requirements:


	Extensive experience in clean room lab environment.
	Photolithography and etching or lift-off skills; design of photolithography masks.
	Experience of working in electronics or materials laboratories fabricating electronic devices or developing functional materials and characterising thin films.
	Any additional expertise in photonics or flexible electronics is desired.
	Good interpersonal skills.

About the Centre for Water Technology and Policy

The Centre for Water Technology and Policy, established in 2018, conducts cutting-edge research on water technology-policy interface issues that would result in findings of direct practical relevance for Hong Kong’s urban water sector. The Centre offers a vibrant working environment, embraces an innovative culture and commits to a can-do spirit. We are seeking a Post-doctoral Fellow to conduct policy-oriented studies and produce publishable-quality manuscripts that pertain to important aspects of urban water resources management. ?

Position Overview

The appointee is expected to play a key role in implementing the Centre’s research programme, which examines salient public policy matters in the urban water sector. He/She will work closely with the Centre’s Executive Director and a team of investigators drawn from the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Social Sciences. Nonetheless, he/she will carry out research tasks on the said topic in an independent manner.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include: Performing data analysis, both qualitative and quantitative; drafting project progress reports; preparing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals; and developing funding proposals. In addition, the appointee is expected to contribute to the Centre's teaching and learning initiatives as well as its public engagement activities.

The Designer Materials and Devices Group at the Department of Electronics and Nanoengineering is looking for a highly motivated?Postdoctoral Researcher?to work on Metasurfaces for Future Communications, related to a large international project "Self-Programmable Metasurface Networks for Wireless Communications and IoT".

Scientific context

6G will enable revolutionary technologies like the Internet of Everything, 3D holographic communication, robotics, Industry 4.0, and wireless brain-computer interactions. A key challenge for 6G, which will operate at sub-THz frequencies, is high signal attenuation in the atmosphere and common urban materials like concrete. To overcome this, 6G will require novel solutions such as reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (metasurfaces). These passive adjustable structures can deflect electromagnetic waves in specific directions, optimizing the wireless environment by enhancing communication without adding costly active components.

Your role and goals

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will contribute to advancing the science necessary to enable next-generation communication systems based on metasurfaces and revolutionizing communication networks and IoT. You will work on new physical mechanisms in electromagnetic wave control and design application-oriented metasurface geometries supporting human-machine interaction. You will collaborate with the multidisciplinary project team and possible industrial partners. The research methodology will have both theoretical, simulation, fabrication, and experimental components.

There are possibilities for research collaboration and extended visits to the following project partners: A. Alù (City University of New York), H. Krishnaswamy (Columbia University), M. Rinaldi (Northeastern University), and S. Shakkottai (University of Texas at Austin), Z. Sun (Aalto University), and N. Ravaja (University of Helsinki).

The expected starting date for the position is negotiable but preferably January 1, 2025 and it is intended for full-time work. The selected person will work under supervision of Assistant Professor Viktar Asadchy and Emeritus Professor Sergei Tretyakov. The successful applicant will have a possibility to cooperate with world-class researchers, publish in high-profile journals, supervise students, attend scientific conferences, and go on research visits to the external collaborators.

As a successful candidate for this position, you must have:


	A doctoral (PhD) degree in electrical engineering, physics, or similar.
	Strong background in electrodynamics and excellent mathematical skills.
	Experience in metasurface or RIS design.
	Ability to generate own research ideas.
	Proficiency in electromagnetic simulation software, such as CST Studio Suite, COMSOL Multiphysics, or ANSYS HFSS and electronic design software, such as ADS.
	High proficiency in Matlab, Python, or similar programming software.
	Solid list of publications.
	Prior student advisor experience.
	High motivation, patience, and stress resistance.
	Excellent written and verbal communication, including presentation skills.
	Highly proficient English language skills.
	Excellent organizational skills, attention to details, and ability to meet deadlines.
	Willingness to learn and work collaboratively in a research environment.


Skills, knowledge, and abilities in the following areas are not required but highly desirable:


	Experience in printed electronics, RF circuit design, and antenna array theory.
	Industrial or start-up experience.
	Solid grant writing experience.

What we offer

Aalto University follows the salary system of Finnish universities. The salary ranges for a postdoc from?4020 € to 4200 € per month, depending on previous experience, and the postdoc contract will be made?for at least 2 years (6-month probation).
