About the opportunity

Southern Cross University’s?Faculty?of Science Engineering?is seeking a Director Academic Accreditation Veterinary Science. The Director Academic Accreditation is a key position and will assist in establishing the new Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine, and Bachelor of Veterinary Technology.? You will support students in their training, skills, and knowledge development necessary for veterinary practice. You will lead compliance with standards set by professional accrediting bodies. You will be outcomes-focused on our academic activities through liaising with internal and external stakeholders.

Your core responsibilities will include:


	To provide strategic academic leadership for the Veterinary accreditation processes to ensure compliance with professional standards and SCU requirements while adhering to rigorous timelines.
	Ensure curriculum and assessments are innovative, current, and compliant with accreditation standards across course design and development, and teaching and learning activities.
	Overseeing outcomes assessment, including data evaluation on graduate outcomes and curricular quality assurance.
	Enhancing student experiences through retention strategies, support systems, and effectively addressing student concerns.


About you

You will be passionate about student teaching and supporting student learning and have a keen interest in health research. More specifically, you will have:


	Completed tertiary studies in Veterinary Science, Doctorate or Bachelor Degree, and clinical experience in veterinary practice. Additionally, current registration or eligibility for registration as a veterinarian in Australia.
	Successful record of managing veterinary accreditation processes in Australia.
	Substantial experience and expertise in teaching within a Veterinary Science or Veterinary Medicine Course, with the ability to engage a network of animal or veterinary science industry and professional contacts in teaching and research activities.
	Experience in designing curriculum and innovative learning experiences, and / or a post-graduate qualification in tertiary education.
	Evidence of a relevant national research reputation as evidenced by publications, success in competitive grants and / or consultancy contracts.

The Riddet Institute is a world-best research centre in food and nutritional sciences, providing fundamental scientific understanding and training for a new generation of science leaders. The Riddet Institute includes a New Zealand Centre of Research Excellence (CoRE) that integrates partner organisations (Massey University, Auckland and Otago Universities, AgResearch and Plant and Food Research) and disciplines. Collectively, this leads to a 'NZ Inc' approach to food research and generates knowledge and capability that transforms the New Zealand food sector.

The Riddet Institute has developed in vitro models that individually simulate the behaviour of various parts of the human gastrointestinal tract in terms of food breakdown and nutrient absorption. One such example is the Human Gastric Simulator (HGS), a dynamic model of the stomach, and we are seeking a high-achieving researcher with a strong background in food science or food engineering to work on a research programme to characterise the breakdown of food in models of the human gastrointestinal tract.

The successful candidate will undertake research using these in vitro models to characterise the breakdown and properties of food during digestion and compare this with in vivo data to develop improved dynamic in vitro models, giving us a better understanding of the breakdown behaviour of different foods and the dynamic absorption of nutrients.

As the successful candidate you will have the following:

PhD in food science, food engineering or a related discipline Strong interest in the understanding of food behaviour in the human digestive system Demonstrated practical experience and a proven track record in working as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team to achieve defined objectives Prior laboratory experience is essential, preferably with experience in testing the physical properties of biological materials Knowledge of human digestive physiology, and the ability to work with engineers in the further development of the in vitro models, is desirable Why Palmerston North?

The Organismal and Evolutionary Research Programme invites applications for

Postdoctoral researchers

in rodent and disease ecology and ecosystem health. The positions are part of the Horizon Europe project?BEPREP?and?RESTOREID?funded by the European Union and the project?ReWetFor?funded by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. The position part of the RESTOREID project is shared between the?Organismal and Evolutionary Biology Research Programme and the Faculty of Medicine.

The aim of the projects is to better understand the underlying mechanisms of pathogen transmission among reservoirs (especially rodents and bats), from vectors to reservoirs and vice versa, and from wildlife to humans in various ecosystems and considering various confounding and modulating environmental factors.

The research is integrated into a broad international scientific network with study sites in especially Sweden, Finland, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Colombia, Brazil, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Madagascar and Malaysia.

We are seeking for three postdoctoral researchers for a fixed term of 2 years (one position with funding secured for 1 year) with a possibility of continuation and with start in early February 2025 or at earliest convenience. The researchers will study and model population dynamics, pathogen transmission and disease risk across land use and habitat systems as a function of environmental factors including biodiversity by combining local and global datasets. If not focussing on statistical or dynamic modelling, you will contribute to collect data in the case study areas and/or experimental field sites and/or laboratory experiments. You will analyse the data along with global datasets to infer on the role of biodiversity, biodiversity recovery, and biodiversity processes for diluting disease risk.

The successful applicants should have completed a PhD in ecology or a related field and have strong analytical and statistical skills. Alternatively, the successful candidates should have a PhD in virology or related fields with strong interest in field and laboratory work, or a PhD in statistical ecology or statistics with strong and proven experience in ecology. We seek candidates with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to conceive, execute and complete multidisciplinary research projects, and to think independently and creatively. Overall, excellent social skills are required for extensive collaborations.

SALARY AND HOW TO APPLY FOR THE POSITIONS

The salary of the successful candidates will be based on level 5 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. The starting salary will be ca. 3700–4100 euros/month, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience.

There will be a trial period of six months in the beginning for all positions.
