The Department of Mathematics (MAT) of the Faculty of Science and Technology invites applications for the position of Full/Associate/Assistant Professor in the area of Statistics. This position is intended to complement and strengthen the expertise of existing staff members. We are seeking candidates with a proven track record in terms of scientific publications, and a commitment to teaching and student supervision.

MAT currently has 18 faculty members and more than 40 PhD students, their research areas cover Probability and Statistics, Financial Mathematics, Computational Mathematics, Mathematical Physics, and Analysis. The department offers Bachelor, Master and PhD degree programs. The Bachelor degree program has two streams: Applied Mathematics, Statistics and Data Science. The PhD program provides sufficient financial supports through the following funding sources: Chinese Government NSFC Funding, Macau Government FDCT PhD Funding, UM PhD Scholarship, UM PhD Assistantship.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a PhD degree in Mathematics, Statistics or related areas; Preference will be given to candidates with a strong research record in Statistics, Applied Probability or Data Science. The department is working on developing a Master program in applied statistics.? The successful candidates are expected to contribute significantly to the program.? The candidates for appointment at the rank of Full Professor must have achieved a high level of distinction and recognition, and have made significant contributions to a related research area.

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in March 2025.

Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP1,250,200 (approx. USD154,350) for the position of Full Professor, MOP1,052,800 (approx. USD129,980) for the position of Associate Professor and MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) for the position of Assistant Professor will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions. The Centre for Research Staff Development (CRSD) provides professional development support for research staff to achieve their potential, before, during and after their time at King’s, with active support from the most senior staff in the university.

Research Staff at King’s are postdoctoral staff, research assistants, technicians and teaching fellows, in fact all those other than PhD students who are engaged in research and who do not yet have an independent, permanent academic or managerial position.

The CRSD also actively supports research staff networks that operate across King’s, both at faculty and divisional level and maintains two-way communication with research staff, ensuring that it provides key information about events, careers, funding, and training and that research staff have platforms to contribute their views and feedback.

About the Role

We are looking for a new member of our team who has a strong interest in professional development, and specifically in helping a diverse body of world leading researchers to grow and be the best they can be, in university spaces and beyond. If this is you, you will work in a small team within the ?Centre for Research Staff Development, reporting to the Research Staff Development Consultant.? Within the CRSD, you will ensure all administration related to the team’s activity is handled efficiently. This includes the smooth running of the CRSD’s professional development training?programme, liaising, and building strong relationships with external facilitators and expert trainers, handling the organisation of CRSD events in-person and online, and monitoring the team’s budget.??

?

You will also work outside the CRSD with colleagues across King’s, servicing the Research Staff Representative Committee and the CRSD Oversight Group and building relationships with other professional services colleagues in all faculties and departments concerned with research and researchers. Along with maintaining accuracy in all forms of administrative monitoring across the team, you will quickly build positive working relationships with the rest of the CRSD and ensure communication across the team remains strong, to provide the best possible support for our research staff at King’s. ??

The post is offered part-time with the option of flexibility around hours to suit the needs of the postholder and the role by agreement.? As a department that delivers professional development we are fully committed to the professional development of our team.?

This is a part time post (21 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 30/06/26.

	Existing or demonstrable ability to develop strong administration skills for tasks including; accurately setting up course listings, zoom meetings, maintaining the related monitoring, and the smooth planning and execution of events/training courses.?
	Excellent time management, with the ability to organise and plan effectively across competing priorities.?
	Strong attention to detail with methodical, exacting standards of written and numerical accuracy.?
	Demonstrable IT experience, especially across all Microsoft packages, including ability to use formulae in Excel.??

About School of Engineering, Design and Built Environment

Our school offers a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Industrial Design, Architecture, Construction Management, and Engineering, integrating advanced academic knowledge with practical training. About the role

We are seeking a forward-thinking, dynamic, and innovative scholar to join our team as a Associate Professor in Industrial Design. This pivotal role involves leading all Industrial Design programs, fostering research and teaching connections with Architecture, and promoting multi-disciplinary collaboration across the school, including Construction Management, Engineering, and Urban Transformation. The Faculty of Life Sciences runs several national and international field stations. One of them is the Tropical Field Station La Gamba, which is used as research and teaching facility and situated at the edge of the Parque Nacional Piedras Blancas and close to the Osa Peninsula with the Corcovado National Park in southern Costa Rica. Are you interested in a position which combines the possibility for doing own research in an environment of tropical rain forest and cultivated landscape with coordination and support of other research and teaching activities in La Gamba? We invite you to apply for this position as a senior scientist at the Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Vienna. The position is limited for 6 months, with the option of a permanent contract after this period.

Your personal sphere of influence

You are affiliated to the Faculty of Life Sciences at the Department of Botany and Biodiversity Research at Rennweg 14, which houses several research groups including Tropical Ecology and Animal Biodiversity. You will be part of the team that will coordinate groups from the University of Vienna that travel to the field station for teaching and to perform research. You will be involved in the exchange and negotiations with the local authorities in Costa Rica and you will also be in close contact with the La Gamba Society (and its members), which owns the field station, as well as the management team of the field station. In your function as a senior scientist, it is expected that you perform and promote research in the tropical environment in and around the field station and coordinate research activities from the University of Vienna in and around La Gamba. You have to travel regularly to the field station and will have close contact with the local management team. You will also be part of the team that reports the progress of the field station activities in research and teaching to the Dean’s Office and the Rectorate.

Your future tasks


	You will be part of the faculty managing team of the field station La Gamba but your position is located at the Department of Botany and Biodiversity Research, Rennweg 14, 1030 Vienna; however, frequent trips to La Gamba are foreseen
	You will coordinate and support groups from the University of Vienna and other Universities travelling to La Gamba in teaching and research aspects
	You will be involved in the processing of permits e.g. for research and collection or for genetic and biochemical studies ?
	You will be closely connected to the local management team of the field station and the La Gamba Society in Vienna
	You will perform, promote and/or coordinate research activities from our Faculty in La Gamba
	You will be involved in University research activities in La Gamba
	You will follow relevant literature and drive new research ideas
