This role is for one position primarily based in Southampton covering our Gateley/Romero (Archers Road) and Highfield Halls of Residence, with occasional need to cover at our Erasmus Park Halls of Residence in Winchester possible. The role will be an administrative role, covering the Gateley & Highfield Hall Receptions on a rotational basis and responding to student enquiries, post and key provision and delivering excellent customer services. You may be required to cover Erasmus Park in Winchester on occasion, as well other Halls sites across the estate as required.

Residences at the University of Southampton offer accommodation to over 6,000 students every year. You will be joining the team at an exciting time as we continue to develop our portfolio of over 6,100 rooms, instigating a new refurbishment plan along with continued development of our halls to enhance student experience.

This Customer Service Assistant position offers the opportunity to provide excellent service throughout the day for students, residents and other customers who interact with our services. You will be calm under pressure and have a commitment to providing excellent customer service at every touchpoint, whilst supporting the ongoing development and improvement projects for our customer facing areas. As an excellent communicator and multi-tasker, you will also play a part in providing valuable support to the supervisory team at the Small Halls of Residence both within and outside of reception.

To ensure the smooth running of our service you will need to work in close partnership with colleagues in the Student Wellbeing, the Residences Lifecycle team, Security and others that collectively provide a 24/7 support to students in Halls. You will also need to collaborate with other departments within the University and external contractors who deliver services within our Halls of Residence.

The successful candidate will be able to evidence experience of working within a busy and diverse customer service environment. We are looking for an approachable and organised character with excellent communication skills. You will need to be confident working within a team, and customer service skills across any industry could well be an advantage. The department uses multiple computer systems to deliver its services therefore experience using multiple systems is essential.

This position is currently being advertised for 36-hours per week, on a Monday-Friday rota, working between the hours of 8am and 8pm on a rotational basis. You will also be expected to be available for occasional weekend/evening working to support peak activity times during the academic year such as student arrivals/departure events and open days.

About the Role

The Centre Manager (NCGRT) facilitates the growth of ground water research capability and activity of Flinders University by providing high level strategic support and management of the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training (NCGRT).

This role also supports strategies to increase the number of quality research collaborations by identifying and translating key opportunities for external investment and is responsible for promoting and marketing the key research capabilities of the NCGRT and other key organisational activities related to the sustainable operation of the Centre.

About You

With previous experience working in a vocational training and/or professional development environment, you will have significant experience in project management or a business development role – especially in the research field.? About the job

The Department of Energy and Process Engineering has a vacancy for a PhD position with a research focus on digitalisation of Lithium-ion batteries for research and development. We have a vacancy for a PhD researcher at The Department of Energy and Process Engineering focusing on Lithium-ion battery digitalisation. The electrification of our society with renewable energy systems results in a discrepancy between energy production and demand due to the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources. As a result, the area of Lithium-ion batteries is becoming increasingly important in reaching climate goals. Lithium-ion batteries are already playing a large role, as shown by the rapid increase in demand electrified transport globally.

Despite this, there are still significant research gaps in Lithium-ion battery technologies, and the experimental research is a limiting step in development of Lithium-ion battery technologies. Therefore, the digitalisation of a Lithium-ion battery will open opportunities for applying modelling-based approaches (e.g., electrochemical, electrical equivalent, physical and data-driven models) and machine learning to fast-track the development of Lithium-ion battery technologies. This approach will also allow the production of a digital twin of a Lithium-ion battery, which may allow further insight into the functional parameters of a Lithium ion battery.

The objective of this PhD project is to design and develop a digitalised Lithium-ion battery. This project will investigate whether modelling and machine learning approaches can be applied to Lithium-ion batteries to enhance the development of nano technologies and focusing our experimental research on computationally optimised theories and hypotheses. By developing a digital twin of a Lithium-ion battery, the process of testing theories and hypotheses can be performed faster than in the laboratory, reducing the time spent on theories and hypotheses that do not yield satisfactory results. Furthermore, it may be possible to integrate machine learning approaches to the digital twin to develop theories and hypotheses further with focus on improving specific parameters of the Lithium-ion battery technology (e.g., faster charging and discharging kinetics).

For a position as a PhD Candidate, the goal is a completed doctoral education up to an obtained doctoral degree.

The prospective candidate will work in the?Sustainable Energy Systems Research Group?and the main supervisor of the PhD candidate will be?Associate Professor Jacob J. Lamb.

Required selection criteria


	You must have a professionally relevant background with a masters degree (or similar level) in simulation engineering, computational modelling, nano technology and electrochemical engineering (or similarly relevant backgrounds)
	Your education must correspond to a five-year Norwegian degree program, where 120 credits are obtained at master's level
	You must have a strong academic background from your previous studies and an average grade from the master's degree program, or equivalent education, which is equal to B or better compared with NTNU's grading scale. If you do not have letter grades from previous studies, you must have an equally good academic basis. If you have a weaker grade background, you may be assessed if you can document that you are particularly suitable for a PhD education.
	Master's students can apply, but the master's degree must be obtained and documented by the starting date of the position.
	You must meet the requirements for admission to the?faculty's doctoral program.
	Experience and a strong interest in development of models of electrochemical systems
	Understanding of electrochemical energy storage systems

Salary and conditions

As a PhD candidate (code 1017) you are normally paid from gross NOK 532?200 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is three years.

Appointment to a PhD position requires that you are admitted to the PhD programme in Engineering within three months of employment, and that you participate in an organized PhD programme during the employment period.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning?State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. The Katharina Gaus Light Microscopy Facility (KGLMF) is part of the highly successful Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre (MWAC) at UNSW Sydney. We support researchers in Science, Engineering, and Medicine with state-of-the-art microscopy services. Our facility is one of the largest in Australia, featuring over 40 high-end microscopes, a comprehensive histology service, and a newly established 3D culture laboratory.

Reporting to the MWAC Executive Director, Renee Whan, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day management of the facility including 13 direct reports. You’ll have advanced knowledge of advanced light microscopy techniques, experience in overseeing the operations of a cutting-edge multiuser facility and have a strong focus on developmental instrumentation and collaborative engagement with commercial suppliers. You will strategically plan for new core and innovative instrumentation in the facility that service the future needs of the research community of UNSW. This includes securing external funding and liaising with key stakeholders, partnerships, and networks. The role will contribute to the university as an academic, with a focus on collaborative research and support the objectives of MWAC as member of its management team.

About the successful applicant
At Level C (Head), you must hold a PhD and be recognised as a leading authority in Biomedical Sciences, Chemistry, or Life Sciences, with experience in managing advanced light microscopy platforms. You should have a strong research track record in light microscopy techniques, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work cooperatively within a team. Additionally, you should have experience in training, teaching, and supervising in a multiuser research environment, as well as in sample preparation and data analysis. You must demonstrate the ability to develop strategic plans for light microscopy, histology, and 3D cultures, foster high-quality collaborative research, secure competitive external funding, and manage budgets and major equipment procurement. Knowledge of research ethics, integrity, compliance requirements, and UNSW health and safety policies is essential, along with a commitment to UNSW’s values and objectives.

For Level D (Director), in addition to the qualifications for Level C, you must have high-level project management experience, strong influencing and negotiation skills, and a proven record of successful student and post-doctoral fellow supervision. You should also have experience in leading and managing academic and professional staff, including change management leadership, and demonstrated success in securing competitive external funding for research infrastructure initiatives.
