About the Role

In this exciting role, you will be responsible for delivering engaging, face-to-face teaching of undergraduate subjects within the School of Physics, using innovative, evidence-based methods for teaching and assessment. You will inspire students through dynamic lectures, tutorials, practicals, and workshops, while also coordinating subjects, assessing student performance, and providing support through consultations. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of subject content and teaching materials, with opportunities to explore pedagogical research and drive innovation within the School’s teaching practices.

Your responsibilities will include:


	Deliver select lectures, tutorials, practicals and/or workshops.?
	Contribute to the coordination, development and delivery of subject modules and subject / course material, with particular focus on First Year teaching in Physics.?
	Contribute to the development, marking and compilation of assessments, including assignments and examinations.?
	Participate in current teaching and assessment best practice initiatives in the School of Physics and Faculty of Science.?
	Provide academic mentoring and assistance to students?
	Contribute to teaching innovation in the School.?
	Provide training, mentoring and ongoing support for teaching practices within the School. This would be provided to tutors, demonstrators and all sessional and continuing staff undertaking educational?activities.??


Who We Are Looking For

You will be deeply passionate about both physics and education, with a strong commitment to enhancing student learning and fostering curiosity and critical thinking. Your enthusiasm for teaching will drive you to inspire students and continuously improve your teaching methods.

You will also have:


	A PhD in physics and/or relevant experience in teaching or research.
	Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including the capacity to explain material plainly and constructively.
	Evidence of contributions in lecturing and tutoring; and a commitment to teaching and contributing to undergraduate and/or graduate teaching programs
	Ability to improvise and adapt to new demands, including exploring and implementing different teaching methods

The School additionally hosts 1 Thomas Baker Chair and Melbourne Laureate Professor, 2 ARC Future Fellows and 1 ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher.? Skilled technical staff operate, maintain and develop complex instrumentation and equipment to support the teaching and research activities of the School.? The School is located in the David Caro building on the Swanston Street boundary of the University campus.? You will engage with students and staff across the University of Waikato to enhance the quality of teaching and learning through innovation and change. You will be comfortable managing complex portfolios, high-performing teams, and time-constrained priorities, as this role has it all. From professional development design, implementation, and delivery to programme expansion, you will explore new ideas to combat the current challenges of the tertiary education landscape.

As a strategic leader, you will be passionate about developing and designing the curriculum for domestic and international partnerships and research opportunities aligned with the University's strategy. Using your experience in tertiary education, you will lead curriculum design, pedagogy, and assessment design, including learning and teaching technologies (artificial intelligence), which encompasses research projects in the scholarship of learning and teaching.

Drawing on your previous experience in an educational management role, you will have an understanding of Kaupapa Māori and Pacific pedagogies, recognize the varied needs of students (learner styles and analytics), and ensure that students and staff develop their professional and academic English language skills.

We are looking for someone who holds a PhD in a relevant field, with excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Graduates of this program have forged successful careers in theatre, film, and television as actors, writers, and directors, with many securing spots in prestigious Bachelor programs at WAAPA, NIDA, and VCA. The Role

In this role, you will bring your skills and experience in teaching acting to guide students through a comprehensive training program that prepares them for theatre and screen work. You’ll direct both in-class projects and public productions, providing hands-on, real-world experience. Your expertise in the performing arts industry will ensure that the course reflects best practices, while your ability to work with diverse age groups and experience levels will be key to fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Key Criteria


	A completed Certificate IV in Training & Assessment or the ability to complete the Certificate IV in Training & Assessment by January 2025. Other relevant tertiary qualifications are beneficial but not required.
	A proven track-record as a teacher or actor-trainer in a formal educational setting.
	Demonstrated capacity to develop, coordinate and review teaching curriculum in acting and performance at a tertiary level in relation to VET best practice.
	Demonstrated experience in working efficiently and confidently with teaching-related administration such as curriculum documentation, Canvas or similar learning and teaching technology, assessment management, or producing creative projects with young artists.
	Evidenced experience as a practitioner in the local or national industry.
	Demonstrated capacity to engage with the performing arts sector locally and nationally to enhance the quality of the student experience.
	Demonstrated ability to draw on lived experience as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person to enrich curriculum and engage meaningfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, ensuring culturally respectful and authentic contributions to teaching and learning.
	Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.


Benefits & Remuneration

This full time, ongoing position attracts a remuneration of $80,938 to $108,498 pa (ALEVA) or $113,918 to $134,596pa (ALEVB) plus 17% superannuation. Paid Cultural and Ceremonial Leave.
