The Higher Polytechnic Institute of Bi¨¦ was founded in 2007, replacing a pre-existing School of Agronomy. The new university subsequently acquired a laboratory for training nurses; other departments followed later.
The university offers six degree courses: humanities and art; social sciences; journalism and information; administration, business and law; medical and health sciences; and engineering and telecommunications. These are distributed across five teaching and research departments.
Staff and students from ISP-Bi¨¦ participate in national conferences, either subject-related or celebrating education more generally.
ISP- Bi¨¦ has a football team that competes in leagues with, among others, the provincial department of education. There is also a student newspaper, providing journalism students with hands-on experience.
