The Inter-State School of Veterinary Sciences and Medicine was established in 1968 to train veterinary doctors and to conduct research in veterinary science and medicine. However, the idea actually came about in 1961 to create a veterinary school for French-speaking African states. It is located in Dakar, Senegal.
There are three academic departments at the university, including: biological sciences animal productions, public health and environment and digital and distance learning. Across its departments, the university offers various levels of study from initial training to master¡¯s and doctorate level degrees, as well as international exchanges and continuing education programs. All degrees are taught in French.
Students at the university have access to equipment in veterinary sciences and medicine which include a food control laboratory, veterinary drug control laboratory, animal food and nutrition laboratory, and the laboratory of endocrinology, radio-immunology and molecular biology.
In addition to its laboratories, it is home to an educational farm that students regularly use for practical work and research. The anatomy museum was inaugurated in 2019 and houses collections of anatomical pieces, wax castings, and skeletons for students to explore and develop their understanding of the veterinary sciences and medicine worlds.
