We are seeking a passionate, collaborative, creative and experienced theatre artist to take on the exciting role of Lecturer (Aboriginal Performance). As a leader of WAAPA’s renowned Aboriginal Performance program, you will have the opportunity to shape the next wave of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander storytellers and performers.

Overview

The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) is recognised as one of the world’s top performing arts institutions, offering an extensive range of training across dance, acting, music theatre, production and design, and music. Exciting changes are ahead for WAAPA, as we prepare to relocate in 2026 to a brand-new, state-of-the-art campus in the heart of Perth. This world-class facility will feature cutting-edge resources, including a dedicated studio for Aboriginal Performance, providing an exceptional environment to inspire, create, and innovate like never before.

WAAPA’s renowned Aboriginal Performance program has been shaping the careers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students for over 20 years. This one-year, full-time VET Certificate IV in ‘Aboriginal Performance’ attracts aspiring performers from across Australia, offering a culturally vibrant and supportive environment.

Graduates of this program have forged successful careers in theatre, film, and television as actors, writers, and directors, with many securing spots in prestigious Bachelor programs at WAAPA, NIDA, and VCA. The course is open to students of all ages and experience levels, helping them develop their skills and unlock their creative potential.

The Role

In this role, you will bring your skills and experience in teaching acting to guide students through a comprehensive training program that prepares them for theatre and screen work. You’ll direct both in-class projects and public productions, providing hands-on, real-world experience. Your expertise in the performing arts industry will ensure that the course reflects best practices, while your ability to work with diverse age groups and experience levels will be key to fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Key Criteria


	A completed Certificate IV in Training & Assessment or the ability to complete the Certificate IV in Training & Assessment by January 2025. Other relevant tertiary qualifications are beneficial but not required.
	A proven track-record as a teacher or actor-trainer in a formal educational setting.
	Demonstrated capacity to develop, coordinate and review teaching curriculum in acting and performance at a tertiary level in relation to VET best practice.
	Demonstrated experience in working efficiently and confidently with teaching-related administration such as curriculum documentation, Canvas or similar learning and teaching technology, assessment management, or producing creative projects with young artists.
	Evidenced experience as a practitioner in the local or national industry.
	Demonstrated capacity to engage with the performing arts sector locally and nationally to enhance the quality of the student experience.
	Demonstrated ability to draw on lived experience as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person to enrich curriculum and engage meaningfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, ensuring culturally respectful and authentic contributions to teaching and learning.
	Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.


Benefits & Remuneration

This full time, ongoing position attracts a remuneration of $80,938 to $108,498 pa (ALEVA) or $113,918 to $134,596pa (ALEVB) plus 17% superannuation. Paid Cultural and Ceremonial Leave.

The Faculty of Life Sciences runs several national and international field stations. One of them is the Tropical Field Station La Gamba, which is used as research and teaching facility and situated at the edge of the Parque Nacional Piedras Blancas and close to the Osa Peninsula with the Corcovado National Park in southern Costa Rica. Are you interested in a position which combines the possibility for doing own research in an environment of tropical rain forest and cultivated landscape with coordination and support of other research and teaching activities in La Gamba? We invite you to apply for this position as a senior scientist at the Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Vienna. The position is limited for 6 months, with the option of a permanent contract after this period.

Your personal sphere of influence

You are affiliated to the Faculty of Life Sciences at the Department of Botany and Biodiversity Research at Rennweg 14, which houses several research groups including Tropical Ecology and Animal Biodiversity. You will be part of the team that will coordinate groups from the University of Vienna that travel to the field station for teaching and to perform research. You will be involved in the exchange and negotiations with the local authorities in Costa Rica and you will also be in close contact with the La Gamba Society (and its members), which owns the field station, as well as the management team of the field station. In your function as a senior scientist, it is expected that you perform and promote research in the tropical environment in and around the field station and coordinate research activities from the University of Vienna in and around La Gamba. You have to travel regularly to the field station and will have close contact with the local management team. You will also be part of the team that reports the progress of the field station activities in research and teaching to the Dean’s Office and the Rectorate.

Your future tasks


	You will be part of the faculty managing team of the field station La Gamba but your position is located at the Department of Botany and Biodiversity Research, Rennweg 14, 1030 Vienna; however, frequent trips to La Gamba are foreseen
	You will coordinate and support groups from the University of Vienna and other Universities travelling to La Gamba in teaching and research aspects
	You will be involved in the processing of permits e.g. for research and collection or for genetic and biochemical studies ?
	You will be closely connected to the local management team of the field station and the La Gamba Society in Vienna
	You will perform, promote and/or coordinate research activities from our Faculty in La Gamba
	You will be involved in University research activities in La Gamba
	You will follow relevant literature and drive new research ideas
	You will be involved in teaching activities

About the Role?

You will be responsible for undertaking research related activities associated with the project titled “Cultivating Systemic Safety to Prevent Workplace Sexual Harassment” funded via an ARC Linkage Project Agreement. This project sits within the Centre for Workplace Excellence, in partnership with 12 organisations who play an important role in understanding the origins of sexual harassment in the workplace in Australia, and are working to mitigate this problem.

Workplace sexual harassment is a significant issue, costing our economy more than $3.5 billion each year. It disrupts business operations and slows progress in achieving gender equality at work. Traditional prevention methods include policies, training, and reporting, which focus on the behaviour itself without addressing its root causes. This misdirection of effort is a major reason why the problem persists. The project will learn more about the origins of sexual harassment in the organisational system – looking deeper into aspects like organisational culture, social dynamics, job and task characteristics, technology, and the physical work environment – and develop new evidence-based prevention strategies.?

You will proactively support and contribute to high quality research through advanced qualitative analysis, competitive research grant activities, as well as actively participate in research concentrations and other relevant collaborative forums, to deliver high quality research outcomes.

About the role

As a Research Fellow you will be part of an international interdisciplinary and multi-institutional research team in the area of One Health. You will be part of a multi-state research project implementing community-based mental wellbeing and disaster preparedness programs in natural hazard-prone rural communities across NSW, SA and WA. The project will also assess longer-term mental health outcomes of rural Australians. This project will critically contribute to rural health, disaster preparedness, and protecting mental health and wellbeing in the face of climate change. Your role will include supporting the establishment and implementation of the research project, overseeing data collection, contributing to quantitative, qualitative and/or longitudinal data analysis, and preparation of publications, reports and conference presentations. You will work independently under guidance of the chief investigator team, and in collaboration with the trial coordinator and research assistants, and help to supervise postgraduate or Honours students.

	A PhD or extensive research experience in psychology or health

???????The School of Psychology currently has an exciting opportunity for a research fellow within the new One Health research pillar. The School of Psychology at UNE is rated at well above world standard for research across topic areas, with key research streams including Environmental Psychology, and Psychosocial Health and Wellbeing in Rural Communities.

The Psychosocial Health and Wellbeing Research Group comprises academics with a particular focus on understanding the mental health of those living in rural populations, including in response to natural disasters such as drought and fires which particularly impact rural communities. The Environmental Psychology and Climate Change Research Group comprises academic staff and students who are interested in how psychological principles can be applied to understand and help solve problems related to environmental sustainability and helping individuals and communities adapt to climate change. Projects examine the impacts of climate change and resultant natural hazards such as fire, flood, cyclones and drought on health and wellbeing. Research projects also focus on how to build resilient individuals and communities, including through interventions to support the well-being of those affected by natural hazards and climate anxiety.
