Located in the city of Charlotte in North Carolina, Johnson & Wales University-Charlotte (JWU Charlotte) is a private, career-orientated university that is the second-largest campus of the four-campus Johnson & Wales University (JWU) system. The other JWU campuses are located in Providence in Rhode Island, Miami, and Denver in Colorado.
Many courses at JWU Charlotte are designed to prepare students for the hospitality and catering industries and include programs such as Culinary Arts, Hotel and Lodging Management, Fashion Merchandising and Retail, and Marketing.
Established in 2006, the JWU Charlotte campus is home to more than 2,250 students and is located in the heart of Charlotte, allowing students to explore the range of opportunities the Queen City has to offer. The city is a major financial centre as well as a key base for the US motorsports industry, and with around 200 neighbourhoods there are a range of cultural and social events and activities for students to enjoy.
The campus itself is spread over 12 acres and has three main halls of residence, a sports complex known as the Wildcat Center, and a range of academic buildings and facilities to accommodate the experiential education system that is central to the philosophy of the university.
There are three colleges¨C the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Culinary Arts, and the College of Management.?More than half of JWU Charlotte students are enrolled in a culinary-based course, and around two-thirds of students are female.
Alongside their studies, students are encouraged to get involved with helping the community and during the 2014-15 academic year, JWU students performed over 25,000 hours of community service.
