Basic information and contact details for Kazakh National Women¡¯s Teacher Training University

institution

Kazakh National Women's Teacher Training University is a public higher education institution in Almaty, south-east Kazakhstan.

Founded in 1944 as a specialist women¡¯s training college, the university was established as part of a wider national goal to improve career opportunities and provide quality education for women in Kazakhstan. It earned university status in 2008, and has since expanded to become a large national higher education institution offering a range of undergraduate and graduate degree courses that remain open to women applicants only.

Around 9,000 students are currently enrolled in courses taught across six departments: physics and mathematics; social and humanitarian sciences; pedagogy and psychology; natural sciences; Kazakh philology and world languages; and arts and culture.

The university is also home to a number of research institutes, and is well regarded for its Institute for Social and Gender Studies. The university also runs a council for young scientists, which runs events and workshops through the academic year to enable students and young researchers to establish industry contacts and participate in national and international exchange programmes and internship opportunities.

The university has partnerships with institutions from around 65 different countries, including with the US, France and China, and a series of wider student exchange programmes take place through the year.

Campus facilities include a medical health centre, gym and swimming pool, as well as a library, languages centre, and student services centre. Dormitory accommodation is also available for staff and students.

Teaching and research takes place at three different campus locations in the centre of Almaty, Kazakhstan¡¯s largest city. From here, students can access museums, shopping, bars and restaurants, as well the national park and mountains which border the city. A cable car and the mountainside Medeo ice rink are well connected via public transport links.
