We are seeking a highly motivated Lecturer to join our HE team who can teach strategic finance modules and who is already able (or willing to learn) to use hospitality simulation programmes such as HOTS (the online hotel business simulation)

You will work with Senior Lecturers, the Head of Department, and our Executive Dean to ensure our delivery is world class and we produce work-ready students that can springboard into high value careers.

We expect that the ideal candidates for this role can demonstrate a commitment to self-development through their CPD record and that they are keen to spend time back in industry to ensure currency and innovation is ongoing.

Post-doctoral Fellow / Senior Research Assistant in the Centre for Information Technology in Education within the Faculty of Education?(Ref.: 528799).

Applicants should possess a doctoral or master’s degree in Education, the Learning Sciences or a related discipline, with a strong background in technology-enhanced learning, learning design and/or learning analytics for teacher learning and pedagogical innovation. Deep knowledge of theories, practices and technological tools related to learning design and learning analytics is crucial. Familiarity with curriculum/pedagogical innovation, leadership for technology-enhanced learning, and/or digital literacy would be a clear advantage. Preference will be given to those with expertise in advanced statistical methods, such as multiple linear regression, mediation analysis, multilevel modeling, and/or latent variable models. Or those with experience in managing and analyzing large datasets, and the use of generative AI tools for research purposes. The appointee should also have a high level of writing proficiency for academic purposes and for a general audience in both English and Chinese. Good organizational skills, the ability to work independently and interdependently within a team on a tight schedule are essential to succeed in this role. Applicants with a PhD degree may be considered for appointment as a Post-doctoral Fellow. Those with other higher degrees and substantial research experience in relevant areas may be considered for appointment as a Senior Research Assistant.

The appointee will work closely with the Principal Investigator and the project team, to conduct research in a project on “Establishing an operationalizable teacher-facing model of Design Aware Learning Analytics”. He/She will take a key role in all stages of the research, including but not limited to (a) research and instrument design; (b) data collection, management, analysis and interpretation; (c) preparation for publications in peer reviewed journals and books; (d) working collaboratively with other project team to liaise with schools, professional bodies and other relevant stakeholders; and (e) providing assistance in administrative and dissemination work.

Doctoral Researcher / Master thesis worker

The position is suitable for person interested in signal processing for condition monitoring of paper and steel machinery. The application is for a master’s thesis or doctoral studies. After successfully completing the master’s thesis, the student can proceed to doctoral studies. The work will be conducted in a collaboration project between an industrial partner and ARotor lab in Mechatronics research group. In practice, the aim of the work is to deploy modern signal processing in condition monitoring, and to study their performance.

Please note that the skills listed in this document will be considered asset, but mastering all of them is not required.

Description of the project

In many industrial processes such as paper, cardboard and steel making, the end product is formed by rolls. Ensuring an accurate geometry and rotating motion is important in the process to enable higher production speeds with a satisfactory product quality. This research aims to develop improved methods for roll service, where in-process data is used in roll service to improve the behavior of the rolls in the process.

The public BETTER project aims to advance signal processing science and its applications in following ways:


	Develop and apply novel signal processing methods for extracting repeating patterns caused by individual rolls, pumps, felts and other rotating components from measured machine direction quality (MD) variation.
	Create useful and convenient metrics for online condition monitoring of single machine elements to quantify their individual significance to the quality of the end product in the process. Using these metrics, the longer term development of the patterns due to wear of the machine elements will be studied.
	Conduct an experiment where the measured quality variation connected to a roll is used to grind a compensative geometry on the roll to eliminate or reduce the quality variation, as rolls and machine elements are known to deform due to mechanical and thermal loads in the production process. Simultaneously, the experiment is used to assess how well the extracted roll patterns correspond to measured geometry errors in the corresponding rolls.
	The research will be conducted in close cooperation with consortium members from the paper, cardboard and steel industries, many of whom can directly exploit the results of the research. The new methods can be applied to improve product quality, increase uptime and to ease maintenance and condition monitoring. Additionally, novel implementations of the developed signal processing methods will become openly available for end users as well as the scientific community.


The general eligibility criteria are:


	Master's or Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, materials science, computer science, statistics or other relevant field
	Excellent written and oral skills in English
	Fluency of the Finnish language is considered a benefit
	Applicants must be able to work full-time and as soon as possible when applying to the doctoral programme. What we offer

Salary of a Master?s thesis phase is 2439 €/month (gross) full time max 6 months. After graduation the starting salary of a doctoral researcher is about 2700 € / month (gross), with possible increases based on achievements. The annual workload is currently 1612 hours. The employment contract includes occupational health care, and Finland has a comprehensive social security system. The first contract (for doctoral studies) will be made for 2 years, followed by a formal midterm evaluation. If the midterm evaluation is successful, an extension to the work contract will be made so that the total time for the doctoral studies is four years.
