The role

We’re looking for a new Executive Director for Research and Innovation - a key strategic leadership role within the Division of Research, Enterprise and Innovation. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and Registrar, you will guide the research and innovation strategy to enhance our institution’s reputation and impact, cementing us firmly into the world’s top 50 research-intensive universities. As a critical member of our Professional Services Leadership group, you’ll collaborate closely with senior academic and administrative leaders, shaping a unified and ambitious approach to research excellence.

What will you be doing?

In this role, you will:


	Lead the university’s initiatives to scale, innovate, and improve research quality and outcomes, aligning with strategic UK and global societal goals.
	Foster a collaborative culture across faculties, promoting shared goals and breaking down barriers to effective strategic delivery.
	Oversee and continuously improve the activities of the Research, Enterprise, and Innovation Division, creating impactful programs and partnerships.
	Drive the sustainable growth of research, including securing funding, enhancing knowledge exchange, and expanding enterprise initiatives.
	Represent the university externally to stakeholders and policymakers, both nationally and internationally, as a champion of our research impact.
	Guide the strategic development and financial planning of the division, ensuring resources are effectively managed to maximize outcomes.
	Lead a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the team, ensuring high standards and staff wellbeing.

As a university assistant prae-doc, you will join the research team of Prof. Yavuz K?se in the Department of Near Eastern Studies. As a center for the study of the Near and Middle East, including North Africa, the institute is not merely the only institution of its kind in Austria, but is also one of the largest such institutes in central Europe. Third-party funded projects and teaching concentrates on Ancient Near Eastern Studies (Assyriology), Near Eastern Archaeology, Arabic Studies, Islamic Studies, and Turkish Studies with special emphasis on Ottoman Studies and research on contemporary Turkey.?The employment duration is?3 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 3 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a declaration of non-extension. With appropriate work progress, an extension to a total maximum of?4 years?is possible.

We are looking for applicants who wish to qualify themselves through their own research and subsequent dissertation in the field of Ottoman history and culture, and who would like to get involved in the various projects and research foci of our department (especially Digital Humanities and Ottoman Studies, Armeno-Turkish, Cultural Heritage, Environmental History). Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:


	You will be involved in research projects and scientific studies or their development in the field of Ottoman and Turkish Studies.
	We expect you to conclude your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months and become member of our doctoral school
	You will be?working on your dissertation and its completion in time.
	You will contribute to publications / scientific articles / lectures.
	You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
	You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.
	You will support the organization of meetings, conferences, symposia and student support.


This is part of your personality:


	Completed Master's degree or Diploma,?in the field Turkish Studies (Ottoman History and Culture) or a related discipline (diploma must be available by the date of employment).
	Interest in the department's main research areas (especially DH and Ottoman Studies, Armeno-Turkish Texts, Cultural Heritage, Environmental History)
	Excellent knowledge of Turkish and knowledge of Ottoman Turkish
	Excellent command of written and spoken English (C1)
	Basic experience?in academic writing
	You should be a team player with high social skills


Desirable are:


	Knowledge of: DH tools (e.g. Transkribus)

The faculty Bursar of the MU Faculty of Medicine announces a?selection procedure for the position of Postdoc in?The Biology of Primary Cilia Signaling?at the Department of Biology, MED MUNI

Description of the lab

Primary cilia are organelles with important functions in cellular signaling, morphogenesis and homeostasis. Mutations in genes that regulate cilia architecture or function result in disorders called ciliopathies. The ciliopathies comprise developmental syndromes, and also postnatal homeostatic disorders including cancer.?In the research lab of Dr. Michaela Bosakova?we focus on understanding the molecular mechanisms by which cilia are formed and used by protein kinases and signaling pathways (published work). Our ultimate goal is to comprehend the pathogenesis of selected ciliopathies, and contribute to development of their therapies.

The project and responsibilities

The selected applicant will lead a?project that aims to target ciliary signaling in glioblastoma, which is one of the deadliest cancers with very limited treatment options. The approaches used in the project will comprise mainly establishment of primary cultures, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, cell and tissue imaging, and cell signaling experiments. Beyond the research tools and technology available in the lab and the hosting department, they will have access to the state-of-the-art instrumentation and services at the MUNI University campus core facilities. They will also participate in projects of other group members, including PhD and master students.

Qualifications:


	PhD degree in the field of cell biology or similar
	Significant, published experience with primary cilia research and/or cell signaling
	Hands-on experience with CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing is a?great advantage
	Ability to work independently allied with a?strong team spirit, scientific creativity, and motivation
	Good communication in English

The Faculty of Life Sciences runs several national and international field stations. One of them is the Tropical Field Station La Gamba, which is used as research and teaching facility and situated at the edge of the Parque Nacional Piedras Blancas and close to the Osa Peninsula with the Corcovado National Park in southern Costa Rica. Are you interested in a position which combines the possibility for doing own research in an environment of tropical rain forest and cultivated landscape with coordination and support of other research and teaching activities in La Gamba? We invite you to apply for this position as a senior scientist at the Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Vienna. The position is limited for 6 months, with the option of a permanent contract after this period.

Your personal sphere of influence

You are affiliated to the Faculty of Life Sciences at the Department of Botany and Biodiversity Research at Rennweg 14, which houses several research groups including Tropical Ecology and Animal Biodiversity. You will be part of the team that will coordinate groups from the University of Vienna that travel to the field station for teaching and to perform research. You will be involved in the exchange and negotiations with the local authorities in Costa Rica and you will also be in close contact with the La Gamba Society (and its members), which owns the field station, as well as the management team of the field station. In your function as a senior scientist, it is expected that you perform and promote research in the tropical environment in and around the field station and coordinate research activities from the University of Vienna in and around La Gamba. You have to travel regularly to the field station and will have close contact with the local management team. You will also be part of the team that reports the progress of the field station activities in research and teaching to the Dean’s Office and the Rectorate.

Your future tasks


	You will be part of the faculty managing team of the field station La Gamba but your position is located at the Department of Botany and Biodiversity Research, Rennweg 14, 1030 Vienna; however, frequent trips to La Gamba are foreseen
	You will coordinate and support groups from the University of Vienna and other Universities travelling to La Gamba in teaching and research aspects
	You will be involved in the processing of permits e.g. for research and collection or for genetic and biochemical studies ?
