    Establishment

    Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) was established under legal authority granted by a provision in the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences Act of 2019 which governs the operations of the University. The University, formally The Malawi Polytechnic a college under University of Malawi (UNIMA), has been in existence since 1965. MUBAS has: five schools namely, Science and Technology, Built Environment, Business and Economic Sciences, Education, Communication and Media Studies, and Engineering; seven centers and seventeen departments. MUBAS offer undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

    To advance knowledge, professional competencies and innovation through outstanding teaching, research, consultancy, outreach and engagement with industry and stakeholders in useful ways. The University is committed to providing a vibrant and supportive intellectual environment that produces influential, entrepreneurial and innovative graduates, driving the pace of transformation locally and globally.

    Academic Members by their Qualifications 

    The University Students are taught by qualified academic members, most of whom have initially been trained locally up to the undergraduate level, and then pursued graduate training at institutions in other countries in Africa, Europe, North America, and even Asia and Australia. There are over 308 academic staff members at the University.  Of these, 59 have doctorate degrees, 188 have master¡¯s degrees, and 58 have bachelor¡¯s degrees. It takes quite a bit of academic productivity to become a Professor within the University system. Perhaps not surprisingly, there are only 5 Professors at the University, and there are 14 Associate Professors. There are 28 senior lecturers, 194 lecturers and 67 assistant lecturers. 

    Student Body

    The University caters to students of both genders who come from all three regions of the country¡ªNorthern, Central, and Southern. International students are also welcome to enroll.  There are currently 11424 students enrolled at MUBAS, of which 7031 are male and 4393 are female.
