The vacant position is based at the Department of Sociology, a sub-unit of the Faculty of Social Sciences. With approximately 1,700 students, an extensive range of courses and a broad and excellent research profile, the study programme offers a sound education in all areas of sociology, including methods of empirical social research.

Your workplace:

As a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Sociology, you will mainly teach in the area of quantitative social research methods (e.g., introduction to quantitative social research, statistics, data collection, data analysis). If required, you will also teach courses?in other areas of the Bachelor's or Master's degree programme (e.g., sociological research training, Bachelor's seminar). You will also be responsible for coordinating the content of specific parallel courses.

The employment level of 22.9 hours/week includes an average teaching commitment of 16 semester hours per week of academic teaching per academic year. The willingness to increase the level of employment if necessary is welcomed.

	You will independently lead courses at Bachelor's and Master's level.
	You will make an active contribution to the (further) development of course and examination formats.
	You will be expected to keep abreast of the current state of the art in science and didactic training and to take on research tasks during periods when you are not teaching.
	In addition, the assumption of administrative activities, especially in the administration of teaching, is part of the job profile.

Job description:?
We are seeking a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Researcher to join our team at the Centre for Remote Sensing Applications (CRSA). The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing our research project focused on leveraging hyperspectral remote sensing for soil fertility mapping and crop nutrient management in selected African nations. The Post-Doctoral Researcher will be responsible for conducting innovative research and developing advanced data fusion techniques to integrate hyperspectral data from multiple sources, including UAVs, Earth Observation satellites, and proximal spectroradiometers. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research that addresses critical challenges in agricultural sustainability and food security across Africa.

Key Duties:
-?? ?Conduct research to develop advanced data fusion techniques for integrating hyperspectral data for soil fertility mapping.
-?? ?Collaborate with project team members to collect and analyze hyperspectral data using UAVs, Earth Observation satellites, and proximal spectroradiometers.

Job Description:
Over the past few years, advances in computational power and the increasing availability of large volumes of remote sensing data with finer spatial and temporal resolutions have significantly transformed the way we approach climate and weather forecasting. These technological advancements have paved the way for innovations, such as the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into real-time data analysis. This integration can revolutionize the interpretation of remote sensing data, allowing for rapid decision-making in critical situations, such as during natural disasters. AI models can process big datasets efficiently, helping to make informed, unbiased decisions, and ensuring resources are distributed to those most in need. Additionally, when combined with modeling experiments or enhanced research in parameterization, AI is accelerating computational processes, improving prediction accuracy, and enabling the creation of extensive model ensembles at a reduced cost.


In this context, we are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team at the CRSA to develop AI models, specifically deep learning approaches, to analyze and predict key climate variables such as precipitation and temperature which are essential for forecasting extreme events. These models will be applied to Morocco’s arid and semi-arid regions, aiming to produce more accurate predictions of droughts and floods. These enhanced climate and weather predictions will contribute to safeguarding food production, ensuring proactive water management strategies, and reducing the health risks associated with extreme weather conditions, particularly in rural areas heavily reliant on agriculture.

??? ?Improve the accuracy of predicting climate variables like precipitation, temperature, and soil moisture by leveraging large multi-source datasets from remote sensing, IoT sensors, and climate models.
??? ?Design and implement deep learning models for forecasting extreme weather events such as floods, droughts, and heatwaves, integrating probabilistic approaches to account for uncertainties.
??? ?Use data assimilation techniques to combine observational data with AI models, improving real time forecasting accuracy.
??? ?Collaborate with hydrologists, climatologists, and data scientists to ensure models are well grounded in scientific understanding.
??? ?Design and conduct fieldwork to validate model predictions and improve the performance of deep learning approaches.
??? ?Publish research findings in high-impact scientific journals and present the results at international conferences.
??? ?Contribute to the supervision of Master’s and Ph.D students.
Qualifications
