Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike is one of three universities of agriculture established by the Federal Government of Nigeria. It was established in 1992.

The university is located in Umudike, a town in Ikwuano Local Government Area Abia State, Nigeria. Umudike is 11 kilometers southeast of the state capital city, Umuahia.

There are currently 12 colleges within the university: agricultural economic and extension, applied food sciences and tourism, animal science and animal production, crop and soil sciences, engineering and engineering technology, natural resources and environmental management, education, natural science, physical and applied sciences, management science, veterinary medicine, and the school of general studies.

Each college is divided into different departments, which offer a range of both undergraduate and graduate degree programmes.

The university is home to a number of centres including the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, Centre for Gender and Child Development, and the Centre for Molecular Biosciences and Biotechnology. These centres facilitate research projects conducted by both students and staff.

The university*s motto is "knowledge, food and security". It aims to provide the knowledge base for achieving food security and alleviate hunger in Nigeria and around the world.
