The National University of Pharmacy was established in 1805. It was originally the pharmaceutical department of the Kharkov Emperor University. Today it is the leader of pharmaceutical education in Ukraine and is one of the top universities in the country.
The campus is located in Kharkiv, the second largest city in Ukraine. Kharkiv is considered the capital of Ukrainian pharmacy as it is home to the largest centre of pharmaceutical education, drugs, science and medical equipment manufacturing.
The university campus itself is fully equipped with 10 educational buildings, six hostels, a nutrition complex with 700 seats, and a botanical garden. These facilities make the university a hub for scientific development and pharmaceutical research.
There are four faculties at the university: foreign citizens¡¯ education; pharmaceutical; pharmaceutical technology and management and medical and pharmaceutical technologies. Within these faculties are 49 departments, 24 training labs and five scientific and research labs.
In 1965 the university welcomed its first international students and now it has graduates from over 70 different countries, specialising within the pharmaceutical industry. International students at the university are given the choice to study in English, Russian or Ukrainian.
Graduates from the university have gone on to become experts in their field. Many have their own pharmacies; others work at embassies or ministries of health across the world. The university¡¯s alumni also include prominent scientists, founders of scientific schools and public figures of pharmaceutical businesses. The university has also met with success in its publishing of numerous magazines and textbooks. These have become popular in Ukraine and further afield.
