Originally the National School of Business Management, NSBM Green University is the first green university in South Asia.
It offers degree and foreign-degree programmes across five faculties: business; computing; engineering; science; and postgraduate studies. It is affiliated with Plymouth University in the UK and Victoria University in Australia.
Just under 30km from the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo, NSBM is spread over a 40-acre leafy campus. High-rise student dormitories offer airconditioning and a private balcony for every room. A recreation building provides a six-lane swimming pool, basketball and badminton courts and a gymnasium.
A second phase of development will add another 15 acres to the campus, which will include a new building to house the proposed faculties of medicine, law and health sciences. There are also plans to build a sports area, with 400m running track, cricket and rugby fields and a sports pavilion, complete with VIP section. The extended campus will also include an open-air theatre, a rainwater-harvesting pond and scenic walking paths.
Student societies include media and photography club to Buddhist society, via volunteer club, martial-arts club and the student circle of accounting and finance.
