NSCAD University, also called the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, is a post-secondary art school in Halifax, Nova Scotia and was the first degree-granting art school in Canada.
It was founded in 1887 by travel writer, educator and social activist Anna Leonowens, whose life was fictionalised to become the best-selling novel Anna and the King of Siam, and later the 1951 musical The King and I.
NSCAD has three campuses within the city¡¯s downtown area. It offers students the chance to gain bachelor's degrees in fine art, design and art history. It also offers a master of fine arts and master of design degrees at the graduate level.
Beyond the classroom, the school offers internships worldwide, as well as formal exchanges through a network of 70 institutions in 15 countries.
