Omar Al-Mukhtar University, is a public university located in Al Bayda, Libya. It was established in 1961, and is named after the Libyan national hero Omar Al-Mukhtar, who led the resistance against Italian colonisation in the early 20th century.
The university offers a wide range of academic programmes across multiple disciplines through different faculties such as the faculty of agriculture, faculty of engineering, faculty of medicine, faculty of arts, faculty of science, and faculty of economics and political science.
Omar Al-Mukhtar University has four campuses in the following cities: Al Bayda (the Old University and the New University), Al Qubah, Derna (Derna University) and Tobruk (Tobruk University).
Its main campus is located in Al Bayda and houses facilities such as classrooms, laboratories, lecture halls, a central library, and student accommodation. The campus also includes specialised research centers that focus on areas such as agricultural research, environmental studies, and renewable energy.?
It has forged academic partnerships with numerous institutions across the world and receives international students from different countries like Malta, Cyprus, Egypt, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sudan, and Chad among others.?
