Polisi University, in the Albanian capital of Tirana, brands itself as a space for thinking about spatial development policies. What this means in practice is that it offers a focused range of design-related degrees, in subjects such as art and design, architecture, urban planning and engineering and technology.
Polis offers three-year undergraduate degrees in art-design, civil engineering, environmental studies, computer science and business administration. In addition, it offers two five-year integrated bachelor¡¯s and master¡¯s degrees, in architecture and urban design, and in urban planning and management.
The primary language of instruction is Albanian. However, the university is becoming increasingly internationalised and has recruited a number of foreign academics. As a result, its second official language is now English.
Student clubs include opportunities to meet professionals in fields of interest. There are also a range of sporting activities available, including aerobics, volleyball and basketball, as well as a Polis football league. There are also music, photography and charitable-fundraising societies, and a ¡°Walking the city¡± club organises walks through Tirana¡¯s pedestrianised areas.
