About the Role?

The Research Associate will drive the research efforts within UniSA STEM, contributing to innovative solutions for the 'Enhancing the RAN’s Undersea Surveillance Minimum Viable Capability' project. Reporting to a Professorial Lead, this role will support critical advancements in Defence and National Security, specifically by developing mathematical and AI-driven models to optimise the deployment of uncrewed surface vehicles for undersea surveillance in varying threat environments.

The role collaborates with UniSA researchers and external partners to drive advancements in AI for undersea surveillance. ?

	Undertake research under limited supervision to achieve project grant outcomes according to project milestones?
	Develop Bayesian models to infer target detection probabilities, accounting for variables such as platform speed, target noise, depth profiles, and environmental parameters
	Collaborate with stakeholders to enhance user interaction through advanced NLP methods, enabling natural language enquiries
	Prepare or contribute to journal publications, conference, and seminar papers
	Provide advice to post graduate students in the appointee’s area of expertise
	Contribute to the Unit teaching activities, including developing research-related materials

	A doctorate or postgraduate degree in a Science or Engineering field relevant to the research area
	NV1 security clearance or eligibility to obtain it
	Research experience with a focus on Bayesian modelling
	Proven record of high-quality research outputs, published and presented in relevant forums
	Strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated through publications, reports, and collaboration with external partners, colleagues, and students

Qualifications


	A PhD degree in Computer Science, Traffic Engineering or related disciplines;?
	A distinguished record of internationally-recognized research and scholarship;
	Demonstrable competence in communication; and

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in August 2025.

Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP1,052,800 (approximately USD129,980) for the position of Associate Professor and MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) for the position of Assistant Professor will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions. About the Role

In this exciting role, you will be responsible for delivering engaging, face-to-face teaching of undergraduate subjects within the School of Physics, using innovative, evidence-based methods for teaching and assessment. Who We Are Looking For

You will be deeply passionate about both physics and education, with a strong commitment to enhancing student learning and fostering curiosity and critical thinking. Your enthusiasm for teaching will drive you to inspire students and continuously improve your teaching methods.

You will also have:


	A PhD in physics and/or relevant experience in teaching or research.
	Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including the capacity to explain material plainly and constructively.
	Evidence of contributions in lecturing and tutoring; and a commitment to teaching and contributing to undergraduate and/or graduate teaching programs
	Ability to improvise and adapt to new demands, including exploring and implementing different teaching methods

Te Kura Toi Tangata School of Education invites applications for this exciting opportunity to provide academic leadership and mentoring in teaching, research, and service.

We are looking for a dynamic individual who will bring a research and scholarship record of sustained excellence and a recognized contribution to STEM Education, especially Mathematics Education, at a national and international level. The role offers the opportunity to bring professional and academic experience as part of a team dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and postgraduate supervision. You will maintain and develop original scholarship and research, as well as undertake professional, community, and iwi service activities in the STEM Education field.

Along with teaching, your well-defined programme of research will help advance research capacities, develop strategic cross and inter-disciplinary research initiatives, and engage with schools and other communities. You will have a record of academic leadership that includes mentorship, guidance, encouragement, and support for other academic staff in the pursuit of their academic objectives and the development of their professional careers.
