Red Sea University was established in 2008 in Bosaso, north east Somalia.
With seven faculties and 23 departments, Red Sea University offers a wide breadth of academic programmes for students to choose from. The seven faculties include: computer science and IT, economic and management science, health science, Sharia and law, veterinary medicine, education, and humanities and social sciences.
The university also has four institutes across campus, including the Institute of Fishery and Marine Science that provides short courses in areas from aquaculture to capture fisheries. Somalia*s long coastline offers opportunities to conduct research in these areas. The City Campus is a private college on site that offers intermediate diplomas and short course training programmes across a range of sectors. The university*s other institutes include: The Research and Innovation Centre, and Community Services and Social Responsibility.
Admission to the university is similar to other African universities, requiring an admission test after application, as well as a personal interview before being admitted.
