Sadjad University of Technology was originally established in 1995 as Sadjad Institute of Higher Education. In 2015 it was granted full university status and became Sadjad University of Technology. It was the first non-profit university to be accredited by the Iranian Ministry of Science.

The university is organised into five academic departments: electrical and biomedical engineering, computer science and information technology, civil, architecture and urban engineering, industrial engineering and management, and mechanical and materials engineering. There are both undergraduate and graduate courses available within these departments for students to study.

Sadjad Research Centre is one of the largest research companies in Khorasan Province. Throughout the year the university contributes to the development of various technological research projects. These have included an intelligent parking door controller, a vehicle tracking system, and a solar power plant monitoring system.

The Cultural Affairs department is an important part of the university. The department is responsible for organising the university¡¯s cultural, religious and political activities and events. Some of these include presidential election debates, scientific competitions and daily prayer times.

The university is located in Mashhad, the second most populous city in Iran. It is the capital of Khorasan-e Razavi Province in the northeast of the country. Due to its location, the city is known for being a trade centre with countries that border Iran to the east.
