Samarkand State University, established by a government decree in 1927, is situated in the city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
In the 1920s, it was known as the Uzbek Pedagogical Institute before being renamed in 1930 as the Uzbek State Pedagogical Academy. In 1933, upon merger of the Pedagogical Academy and the Uzbek State Medical Institute into the Uzbek State University. Finally in 1961, it was renamed the Samarkand State University, a name it keeps to date.
At Samarkand State University, students can gain both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees within a wide variety of faculties, including: mathematics, physics, digital technologies, biology, chemistry, law, human resource management, geography and ecology, psychology and social relations, history and art history.
Study at Samarkand State University is conducted in Uzbek, Russian and English.
On campus, students will find an academic lyceum, scientific research laboratories, modem computer classrooms and museums. There¡¯s also student dormitories, which provide comfortable rooms, designed for two or three people.
Students are actively encouraged to get engaged in sports activities on campus, both recreationally and competitively. Students have been known to take part in world sports competitions, including the Olympic Games.
Samarkand State University has established relationships with universities around the world, carrying out various exchange activities such as academic exchanges, scientific research cooperation and the opportunity for students to study abroad. Partner universities include Arizona University (US), Florence University (Italy) and Shanghai University (China).
