Sebha University, located in the city of Sabha, Libya, has a rich history that began in 1976 when it was established as a branch of the University of Tripoli. Initially, it consisted only of the faculties of education and sciences, which served as a nucleus for the future independent university. In 1983, it gained autonomy and became Sebha University, taking on a broader range of faculties and academic programmes.
As of 2016, the university had 19 faculties, spread across various regions in the south of Libya, including Sabha, Awbari, Murzuq, Brak, and Ghat. The faculties at Sebha University cover a wide range of subjects and disciplines: agriculture, arts, economics and accountancy, engineering science and technology, law, medicine, physical education, sciences, education in Awbari, education in Brak, pharmacy, education in Ghat and information technology.
The university offers both bachelor's and master's degrees in these fields, providing higher-education opportunities to the students in the region and contributing to the academic and intellectual growth of Libya. Sebha University plays a crucial role in serving the educational needs of the local communities and promoting academic excellence in the southern part of the country.
