Senshu University is a private university located in Tokyo, Japan. It was founded in 1880 as Senshu College. It opened with law and economics departments and operated as a special training school.
It was in 1913 when Senshu College gained its university status, becoming the Private Senshu University. It has since been renamed, Senshu University.
In 1923 the campus was destroyed,during the Great Kanto Earthquake, and rebuilt by students and faculty together.
It has two campuses: the main campus, Kanda, and secondary campus, Ikuta. Courses are offered at undergraduate, graduate and professional levels and the university also has 12 research institutes.
Students can study across a range of disciplines including: business; commerce; economics; human sciences; international communication; law; literature; and network information. Qualification courses are also offered, such as: teaching, librarian, curator and school librarian courses.
Senshu University has gained significant sporting achievements since establishing its Athletic Association in 1933, winning six consecutive titles in the Five University Baseball League. In 1965, the university won the All Japan University Baseball Championship, with famous baseball player, Ace Hiroaki Shibaike.
Senshu University has partnerships with several other Japanese universities, including: Japan Women¡¯s University, Chuo University, and Hosei University. It¡¯s international sister schools include: the University of Bristol (UK), University of Calgary (Canada), University of Nebraska (USA), and the University of Technology, Sydney (Australia).
Notable alumni include former minister of defence Yasukasu Hamada, animation director Tetsur¨ Araki, and baseball player Hiroki Kuroda.
