Sikkim Manipal University was formerly known as Sikkim Manipal University of Health, Medical and Technological Sciences. It is the first ever public private partnership in India for higher education and healthcare services. It was established in 1995.
The university has two campuses; the Tadong medical campus and Majitar technology campus, both of which are located in Gangtok, Sikkim in India.
There are seven main study pathways at the university, specalising in health and technology, including: allied health sciences, medicine, surgery, nursing, physiotherapy, humanities and social sciences, biotechnology.
Across these pathways, courses are offered at bachelor, master, and doctorate degree level.
There are also a range of certificate courses on offer for students in humanities and social sciences including the NSE Certified Capital Market Professional Course that develops employable skills and competency in capital markets. This certificate course is a 100-hours course split into theory and practical studies. The university also offers certificate courses in basic neurotrauma and soft skills and personality development.
Outside of their studies, students at Sikkim Manipal University are encouraged to develop a business mindset which is supported by the AIC-SMU Technology Business Incubation Foundation.
The incubator was set up by the Atal Innovation Mission and is the first incubation centre in North-East India. Located on campus, the incubator nurtures early entrepreneurial ventures in technology and innovation by providing funding and mentorship.
