Founded in 1919, Songkhla Rajabhat University is one of the oldest higher education institutions in southern Thailand. It was originally established as the Provincial Teacher Training School and specialised in pedagogy science. In 1961 it became Songkhla Teacher College and in 1981 it was renamed Songkhla Community College. The college attained university status under its current name in 1992.
There are seven faculties within the university: faculty of education, faculty of agricultural technology, faculty of humanities and social sciences, faculty of management science, faculty of science and technology, faculty of fine arts, and the faculty of industrial technology. Each faculty is divided into different departments which offer both undergraduate and graduate degree programmes.
The university is recognised by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of Thailand.
It is one of 38 Rajabhat Universities in Thailand. These universities were formerly known as Rajabhat Institutes and were part of the teacher¡¯s college system until 2005 when King Bhumibol Adulyadej declared them all universities.
The university is located in Songkhla, a small city in the south of Thailand.
