Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth is a deemed-to-be university which was established in 2008. Its vision is to become a global health sciences university with a focus on education, research and patient care.
The university is located in Puducherry, a city on the southeast coast of India.
There are five colleges and institutes within the university: Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, Shri Sathya Sai Medical College and Research Institute, Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College and the Shri Sathya Sai College of Nursing. There is also the faculty of allied health sciences, the school of pharmacy and the school of biological sciences. Each institute offers a range of both undergraduate and graduate degree programmes.
The university has been recognised as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation. It has six centres that facilitate this research: Centre for Yoga Therapy Education, Centre for Music Therapy Education, Centre for Health Professions Education, Central Interdisciplinary Research Facility, Centre for Digital Resources, E-learning and Medical Informatics, and the Medical Simulation Centre. The Medical Simulation Centre has been approved by the American Heart Association to function as an international training centre.
