About the opportunity

The Sydney Centre for Healthy Societies (SCHS) is a Flagship Centre for the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at The University of Sydney, housing leading humanities and social science scholars working across various spheres of health and wellbeing. Our work in the Centre spans the key research themes of 1) Politics and Economies of Health and Wellbeing; 2) Race, Ethnicity and the Biohumanities; 3) Embodying the Anthropocene; 4) Work, Education and Welfare; 5) The Social Life of Food and Nourishment; and 6) Migration, Im/mobility and Belonging.

The School of Social and Political Sciences (SSPS) at The University of Sydney is a leading social science environment, with outstanding staff and students undertaking world-leading teaching and research. The School comprises the disciplines of Sociology and Criminology, Anthropology, Government and International Relations, and Political Economy.

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our team at the University of Sydney's Camperdown campus. This role will work under the guidance of Dr Leah Wiliams Veazey, alongside a dynamic team of social science researchers.

The successful candidate with contribute to a growing program of research about the migration, im/mobility and belonging. In particular, they will make critical contributions to an Australian Research Council Fellowship entitled 'Future-proofing Australia's Care Economy: A Relational Mobilities Approach'. This project aims to generate a combination of high-quality peer-reviewed publications and translational outputs to inform policy and practice.

Applicants should have a background in a relevant discipline such as (but not limited to) sociology, geography, social policy, or anthropology. More than specialisation in a particular discipline or sub-field, we are looking for demonstrated potential for scholarly excellence and collaboration. Experience undertaking qualitative research on sensitive topics is essential, as are highly developed skills in writing, qualitative data analysis and project management, and the ability to build and maintain generative relationships with diverse stakeholders. Skills in quantitative data analysis, and experience in engaging policymakers in research processes are desirable but not essential.

Your key responsibilities will be to:


	undertake qualitative fieldwork (local and interstate), including conducting in-depth interviews or focus groups with healthcare workers with experience or aspirations of migration, members of their families and communities, and industry stakeholders
	lead or contribute to the analysis of qualitative and/or quantitative data
	lead or contribute to co-authored academic articles with members of the research team
	lead or contribute to the dissemination of research findings to policymakers and members of the public
	take responsibility (under the supervision of Dr Leah Williams Veazey) for the day-to-day logistics of carrying out research, including participant recruitment
	develop ethics submissions and satisfy reporting requirements
	further the vision and objectives of the Sydney Centre for Healthy Societies and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.


About you


	a PhD in sociology, geography, social policy, or anthropology or a closely related discipline
	advanced qualitative research skills and experience, including skills and experience analysing qualitative data
	experience undertaking sensitive research
	experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
	an emerging research profile evidenced by high-quality peer-reviewed research
	demonstrated project management experience
	skills and experience analysing quantitative data (desirable but not essential)
	skills and experience engaging policymakers in research processes (desirable but not essential)
	demonstrated capacity for engagement with social science/sociological concepts and theory
	demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
	sound written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills suitable to collaborating in an academic context.

About the role

This role is the at the heart of the visual content created by the Fundraising and Alumni Communications team. As well as practical creation of visual content - ranging from photography and basic animation to video editing and commissioning assets – this role will be instrumental in the development and application of visual branding across the department.

The post holder will have the opportunity to work across a variety of channels, from websites to print and social media to video.

This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

P&D has a hybrid working approach, with a minimum of 40% of time in the office. Typically, this equates to two days per week, but we’re very happy for colleagues to be in more frequently if they so wish.

About The Role

The Social Mobility and Widening Participation Officer is a vital member of the department. The post-holder will support with the development, delivery and evaluation of sustained outreach initiatives. They can expect to provide both administrative and delivery support for any of our projects, but it is anticipated they will initially focus on:


	K+: King’s flagship widening participation programme
	Online lecture series: Nine series, each linked to a King’s faculty
	King’s PLUS: King’s programme of undergraduate support for widening participation students.


They may also be involved in a range of other projects run across the Social Mobility and Widening Participation Department.

The post holder will work closely with SMWP staff, student ambassadors and key partners. This role is responsible to the Social Mobility and Widening Participation Manager.

About us

At the Centre for Developmental Neurobiology (CDN), we investigate the mechanisms governing the formation of the brain during embryonic development and in early postnatal life. This is based on the understanding that early experience shapes the way our brain is constructed. While the “ground plan” of the brain is genetically determined, it is also influenced by environmental experience. We are still far from a complete understanding of how these processes work.

CDN is one of four departments in the School of Neuroscience at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience and is located at Guy’s campus. Researchers have access to support facilities in genotyping, molecular biology and Drosophila work. CDN has close partnership with the Medical Research Council (MRC) and CDN researchers, together with clinical researchers from King’s, make up the MRC Centre for Neurodevelopmental Disorders.

About the role

We are seeking for a highly motivated, and scientifically curious research assistant with a strong interest mammalian brain development, specifically neuronal and glial subtype specification to join Setsuko Sahara in collaboration with Laura Andreae's and Engene Maleyev lab at King’s College London (?https://devneuro.org/cdn/group-overview.php?groupID=87).

The post holder will support experimental work towards advancing our understanding of how a vast diversity of cortical projection neurons and glia emerge from a limited number of progenitors during development. We will address this question by interrogating the molecular mechanisms in mouse cortical development with a specific focus on posttranscriptional and posttranslational controls. These include in vivo manipulation of gene expression, cell and molecular biology, imaging, and bioinformatics.

This post will be offered on an a full-time, fixed-term contract until 7th August 2026.

About you

	A master’s degree in biological sciences or a related field.? Alternatively, more than one full year of wet laboratory experience, if the candidate holds a BSc degree
	Previous experience working in a research laboratory
