The Technical University of Sofia was founded in 1945 and remains the largest technical university in Bulgaria.
It was established as part of the Higher Technical School (later renamed to State Polytechnic) and was granted university status in 1995 when it received its current name.
Students can study a variety of subjects at undergraduate, graduate and PhD level within the following faculties: automation, electronic engineering and technology, electrical engineering, power engineering and power machines, computer systems and control, mechanical engineering, machine technology, management, transport, applied mathematics and informatics, applied physics, and engineering and pedagogy.
Courses are taught in English. It also has three additional faculties with education only in German, English and French.
All of the faculties are spread across five separate campuses across Bulgaria, which are: Sofia, Plovdiv, Sliven, Botevgrad and Kazanlak.
On campus, in addition to classrooms and lecture halls, there¡¯s a university publishing house, resources centre and a language centre dedicated to foreign language learning. There¡¯s also a separate building with a sports centre, which houses an olympic size swimming pool and a number of other sports halls for students to compete.
The Technical University of Sofia has established relationships with universities around the world, carrying out various exchange activities such as academic exchanges, scientific research cooperation and the opportunity for students to study abroad. The university welcomes students to its campus for two semesters.
