institution

A private institution focused on health-related disciplines spread across four campuses in the Greater Tokyo region, Teikyo Heisei University is part of the same group as Teikyo University and Teikyo University of Sciences. The group extends across a wide range of sectors, also incorporating senior and junior high schools, a kindergarten, a hospital, a clinic, a vocational college and overseas campuses.

The university was founded in 1987 as Teikyo University of Technology and took on its current name in 1995. It is also sometimes called Pureida University.

Its mission invokes the "spirit of Construction", describing itself as a "comprehensive institution of the applicable skills needed to contribute to society".

It aims to "nurture a love for humanity through a well-balanced education in liberal arts, social science and natural science". Students build upon their learning through practical study, thereby gaining the skills they need for the real world.

There are two campuses in Tokyo in the downtown district of Ikekeburo and the Nakano campus opened in 2013 in Shinjuku. Other campuses are located in Chiba and Chihara-Dana in the city of Ichihara in the Chiba Prefecture, to the east of Tokyo.

There were more than 10,000 students in 2017 divided between healthcare, health and medicine at Ikekeburo; pharmacy, contemporary life and nursing at Nakano; healthcare and medical sports at Chiba and midwifery at Chihara-Dama.

The distinctive disciplines taught include "Judo redress" which uses the martial art as therapy for injuries.

The pavement theme of the Nakano campus has received considerable coverage in the landscape architecture press.
