Tishk International University (TIU) was officially founded in 2008. It was previously known as Ishik University, in Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq. The university is owned by local and international investors and educators and is also a member of the Union of Arabic Universities.
Initially, the university offered an English prep programme, and it gradually expanded to offer various bachelor's degrees. Over the years, the campus has grown, and several faculties were established to cater to different fields of study.
Tishk International University emphasises internationalisation and has taken several measures to enhance global engagement. It employs international staff members and welcomes international students from all over the globe.
The academic programmes cover a diverse range of disciplines, including dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, engineering (civil, interior design, computer, mechatronics, petroleum and mining, surveying and geomatics), law, business and management and international relations. The language of instruction is predominantly English, except for the law programme, which is taught in Arabic.
The university has collaborated with more than 50 universities worldwide, fostering academic partnerships and student-exchange programmes. The university's Sulaimani campus branch was set up to cater to students in the engineering and business faculties. There are also a few academic and specialised centres, such as the TOEFL centre, research centre, and engineering consultation bureau, to enhance research and scientific consultations.
Tishk International University places great importance on social activities, acknowledging their significance in offering students opportunities for personal development and relaxation.
