Universidad del Magdalena is a publicly funded institution of higher education located in Santa Marta, Colombia. It was established in 1958 as the Technological University of Magdalena.
In 2016, the Ministry of National Education granted the university a four-year institutional accreditation becoming the second public university in the region to receive such accreditation.
Students can pursue degrees in fields such as engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, education sciences, social work, economics, business administration, public accounting, international business, law, political science, anthropology, sociology, psychology, tourism, modern languages, literature, history, communication and journalism, music, and fine arts.
The university campus, spanning approximately 50 hectares, is renowned for its size and environmentally sustainable practices in the Caribbean region.
The university offers the Magdalena Talent Programme, aimed at facilitating access to higher education for academically exceptional students. This programme provides various incentives, including a 100% fee waiver for registration, alternative transportation options like bicycle delivery, meal programmes, biannual economic support for purchasing study materials, and guidance in vocational development and study techniques provided by the Directorate of Student Development.
Universidad del Magdalena's facilities include the Caribbean Sea Classroom Building, Roque Morelli Zarate Administrative Building, university wellness centre, teaching building, cultural centre, football field, tree trail, and pedestrian access points.
