Universit¨¦ d¡¯Orl¨¦ans can trace its roots back to 1306 but closed during the revolutionary era in 1793 and was re-established in 1960.

The main campus is located outside the city of Orleans at Chateau La Source Castle. It has subsequently developed as a multi-disciplinary, multi-site institution with 14 sites in seven communities ¨C Orleans, Bourges, Chartres, Chateauroux, Blois, Issoudun and Tours.

Around 140 courses are offered by the engineering school, four institutes of technology, schools of physiotherapy and medicine and faculties of law, economics and management, humanities, languages and social science, and science and technology.

The university also has a University Hospital and a laboratory focussing on innovation and health research. There are plans to develop a new faculty of medicine and for the faculty of law to move in 2026 from La Source into the city, creating a new university quarter with more than 4,000 students.

Six international joint degrees are offered, including master's options in history and in chemistry with Jagiellonian University, Krakow, and economics and management with the University of Sfax, Tunisia.
