The University of Gafsa is based in south-west Tunisia and was founded in 2004 to deliver higher education to the provinces of Gafsa and Tozeur.
The university focuses its teaching and research on science and technology.
Students are divided into 10 schools. The faculty of science, the national school of engineering, preparatory institute of engineering studies and the higher institutes of applied humanities, business administration, applied science of technology, arts and crafts, sport and physical education and energy science and technology are all located in Gafsa. Tozeur is covered by the higher institute of applied sciences.
It operates three research laboratories which include the Application of Materials in the Environment, Water and Energy (AMEEC), Environmental Biotechnology and Oasis Ecosystems (BEEO) and Technology, Energy and Innovative Materials (TEMI).
The university has 61 bilateral agreements with other universities, 37 in the European Union, and a multilateral deal with the University of Paris-Saclay.
