The University of ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ Economics, Lahore originally dates back to 1955 when it was established as the College of ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ Economics. Its main mission was to educate female students in essential life skills, preparing them for home and family life while also nurturing their creative abilities.

In collaboration with Oklahoma University, US, the college developed its curriculum. Within a decade of its founding, the college expanded to include master of science, bachelor, and CT courses, aiming to help women who could excel in various professional fields.

In February 2017, the Punjab Assembly passed an Act to elevate the college to a public-sector university. The transformation into a university formally began with the appointment of its first Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Kanwal Ameen, in May 2019.

The University of ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ Economics offers various faculties to cater to diverse academic interests and career paths. These faculties include the faculty of art and design, faculty of social and behavioural sciences, faculty of science and technology, faculty of history and languages, and the faculty of management sciences.

The university has library, a digital resource centre and a scholar's corner to facilitate research and academic pursuits. Students can also access a reading and discussion hall, wellness services, health centre, student counsellor, Kanwal wellness centre, auditorium, seminar hall and a prayer and common room.

To support practical learning, the university also offers facilities such as laboratories and computer labs, a lab nursery, a centre for special children and a daycare centre. There are also residencies, sports grounds and a photocopy shop on campus.

The university encourages students to take part in extracurricular activities through various societies and clubs. These include the debating and literary society, character-building society, drama, music and festival society, art and cultural heritage society, harmony-building society, sports society, human wellbeing and antinarcotics society, green and clean society, green youth movement club and media club.

Graduates from the University of ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ Economics have diverse career opportunities, including joining food companies, utility companies, supermarkets and home-equipment manufacturers. Many become freelance entrepreneurs or work in media, advertising, product promotion and testing. Others pursue careers in teaching, community-related activities and credit counselling, where they provide valuable advice on food choices, fashion, activity patterns and healthy lifestyles, contributing to the wellbeing of families and communities.
