The University of Las Am¨¦ricas, founded in 1994 is the first global university in Ecuador. It is located in Ecuador¡¯s capital, Quito, which sits high in the Andean foothills. Quito¡¯s rich colonial history has been preserved in the 16th and 17th century churches that remain in the city centre. In 1978 UNESCO declared Quito one of the first World Cultural Heritage Sites alongside Krak¨®w, Poland.
The university has four campuses spread across Quito, namely Granados Campus, Udlapark Campus, Queri Campus, and Col¨®n Campus. Each campus is fully equipped with modern facilities and cutting-edge technology. There is also the Nono Experimental Farm, which offers practical experience to students studying agriculture.
There are 37 undergraduate courses available at the university in various fields including dentistry, medicine, music, and political science. Since 2006 the university has also been offering masters programmes and today there are over 20 graduate courses for students to specialise in.
On top of their studies, students can get involved in the university¡¯s extracurricular activities. There are numerous artistic, cultural, and sports clubs on offer at the university, ranging from martial arts to photography, flamenco to basketball. The university clubs are designed to help students develop invaluable skills and enrich their overall university experience.
Students may also choose to enrich their experience by participating in the university¡¯s exchange programme. This provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to study abroad for one or two semesters. The university has partnerships with a number of higher education institutions around the world in countries such as Belgium, Colombia, Peru, Poland, and the US.
