The Department of Mathematics (MAT) of the Faculty of Science and Technology invites applications for the position of Full/Associate/Assistant Professor in the area of Statistics. This position is intended to complement and strengthen the expertise of existing staff members. We are seeking candidates with a proven track record in terms of scientific publications, and a commitment to teaching and student supervision.

MAT currently has 18 faculty members and more than 40 PhD students, their research areas cover Probability and Statistics, Financial Mathematics, Computational Mathematics, Mathematical Physics, and Analysis. The department offers Bachelor, Master and PhD degree programs. The Bachelor degree program has two streams: Applied Mathematics, Statistics and Data Science. The PhD program provides sufficient financial supports through the following funding sources: Chinese Government NSFC Funding, Macau Government FDCT PhD Funding, UM PhD Scholarship, UM PhD Assistantship.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a PhD degree in Mathematics, Statistics or related areas; Preference will be given to candidates with a strong research record in Statistics, Applied Probability or Data Science. The department is working on developing a Master program in applied statistics.? The successful candidates are expected to contribute significantly to the program.? The candidates for appointment at the rank of Full Professor must have achieved a high level of distinction and recognition, and have made significant contributions to a related research area.

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in March 2025.

Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP1,250,200 (approx. USD154,350) for the position of Full Professor, MOP1,052,800 (approx. USD129,980) for the position of Associate Professor and MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) for the position of Assistant Professor will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions. About the Role

In this exciting role, you will be responsible for delivering engaging, face-to-face teaching of undergraduate subjects within the School of Physics, using innovative, evidence-based methods for teaching and assessment. You will inspire students through dynamic lectures, tutorials, practicals, and workshops, while also coordinating subjects, assessing student performance, and providing support through consultations. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of subject content and teaching materials, with opportunities to explore pedagogical research and drive innovation within the School’s teaching practices.

Your responsibilities will include:


	Deliver select lectures, tutorials, practicals and/or workshops.?
	Contribute to the coordination, development and delivery of subject modules and subject / course material, with particular focus on First Year teaching in Physics.?
	Contribute to the development, marking and compilation of assessments, including assignments and examinations.?
	Participate in current teaching and assessment best practice initiatives in the School of Physics and Faculty of Science.?
	Provide academic mentoring and assistance to students?
	Contribute to teaching innovation in the School.?
	Provide training, mentoring and ongoing support for teaching practices within the School. This would be provided to tutors, demonstrators and all sessional and continuing staff undertaking educational?activities.??


Who We Are Looking For

You will be deeply passionate about both physics and education, with a strong commitment to enhancing student learning and fostering curiosity and critical thinking. Your enthusiasm for teaching will drive you to inspire students and continuously improve your teaching methods.

You will also have:


	A PhD in physics and/or relevant experience in teaching or research.
	Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including the capacity to explain material plainly and constructively.
	Evidence of contributions in lecturing and tutoring; and a commitment to teaching and contributing to undergraduate and/or graduate teaching programs
	Ability to improvise and adapt to new demands, including exploring and implementing different teaching methods

As a university assistant prae-doc, you will join the research team of Prof. Yavuz K?se in the Department of Near Eastern Studies. As a center for the study of the Near and Middle East, including North Africa, the institute is not merely the only institution of its kind in Austria, but is also one of the largest such institutes in central Europe. Third-party funded projects and teaching concentrates on Ancient Near Eastern Studies (Assyriology), Near Eastern Archaeology, Arabic Studies, Islamic Studies, and Turkish Studies with special emphasis on Ottoman Studies and research on contemporary Turkey.?The employment duration is?3 years.
