University of Poonch Rawalakot is located in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, where two-thirds of the population is reckoned to earn its living from livestock or poultry.
It has faculties of agriculture, medical and health science, basic and applied science, engineering and technology and veterinary and animal science. The medical school teaches a five-year EMed degree mixing western and eastern medicine, and it is only one of only five universities in Pakistan offering Pharmacy-D, a mixed masters and bachelors degree in the topic.
Research centres include the National Centre for Livestock Breeding Genetics and Genomics, publicly funded by the Higher Education Commission. It also publishes the JK Journal of Agriculture.
There are campuses at Mong in the Rawalat Valley and at Kahuta Haveli. A new campus is planned at Chota Galla.
