The Position

This position is fully funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC)?Centre of Excellence for the Weather of the 21st Century. The Centre is a major seven-year initiative funded by the Australian Research Council. It is a consortium of 24 partners led by Monash University in partnership with The University of Melbourne, The University of New South Wales, The Australian National University, and the University of Tasmania. The Centre’s team-based research is focused on how Australia’s weather is being reshaped by climate change. The Centre conducts blue-sky research with real-world applications for communities, industry and government.

The Research Software Engineer will be a member of?Research School of Earth Sciences?(RSES). RSES is Australia’s leading academic research institution for Earth and Marine Sciences, and ranked 11th in the world for Earth and Marine Sciences (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023). The Person

The Research Software Engineer will provide the specialist technical expertise to support computational research and model development across the CoE for 21st Century Weather. The successful candidate will be at the Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES), and will contribute to the development, optimisation, and deployment of software and workflows that enable climate and weather research utilising high-performance computing, visualisation and big-data approaches.

Your ability to lead by example, coupled with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, will enable you to foster respectful and productive working relationships with staff, students and colleagues at all levels within RSES in line with the?RSES Culture Statement.

The mission of the Centre for English and Additional Languages (CEAL) at Lingnan University is to enhance the English language skills of Lingnan students and to provide language support to help students succeed in their academic studies and future careers.? General Requirements

Lingnan University is looking for a well-qualified language specialist to head the CEAL. Applicants for the position should demonstrate excellence in teaching as well as having a proven record of curriculum/course development, delivery and assessment. Extensive management experience in a university English language centre or similar environment is desirable. S/he will have a PhD in English language (preferably Applied Linguistics) or a related area, a minimum of five years’ administrative experience, ten years of teaching experience in university English, and a track record of research and publication in language learning and teaching. Job description

Your goal as a Postdoctoral Researcher is to develop integrated quantum devices or other solid state devices based on various nanomaterials, such as one-dimensional materials (e.g. carbon nanotubes, nanowires) and two-dimensional layered materials (e.g. transition metal dichalcogenides) and their heterostructures. You'll get to conduct high quality research independently and to work as an active member of the research groups by taking part in project management duties and guiding M.Sc. and Doctoral students. The project is part of the current programs of the group funded by ERC advanced grant, Academy of Finland, EU Quantum Flagship.

Research group

This research position will be supported by the?Photonics group?at Aalto, which is led by?Professor Zhipei Sun. The group mainly focuses on the study of physical properties of various nanomaterials (e.g. carbon nanotubes, nanowires, two-dimensional layered materials) for photonic and optoelectronic applications. The group is located on the university campus near Helsinki and offers a motivating and state-of-the-art research environment. Requirements


	PhD degree in quantum photonics, condensed matter physics or related topics within the last 5 years is favorable for the position
	Excellent knowledge of quantum photonics, integrated photonics, or other low-temperature device experiments
	Experience in nanomaterial-based device fabrication is desirable and will be considered an asset.
	Proven track record in major scientific research
	Good command of English is necessary


Salary and contract terms

Postdoctoral Researcher position will be filled for 1–3 years. The expected starting salary is approximately 4000€/month, depending on experience and qualifications. Postdoctoral Researchers in Electromechanics and Electrical Machines

The Computational Electromechanics Group has two open postdoctoral research positions funded by the Academy of Finland's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in High-Speed Electromechanical Energy Conversion Systems (2022–2029).

Your role

You will conduct ground-breaking research on next-generation high-speed electric machines and systems. Depending on your interest and background, we can offer you a research topic ranging from the numerical modelling of electrical machines to developing simulation methods for the whole drive system including electric and mechanical parts. You will also develop models and tools needed by our CoE partners and in cooperation with them. You will be provided possibilities to teach in master-level courses and to instruct master’s and doctoral students.

Your background and expertise

We expect you to have a recent doctoral degree in electrical engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related field. The successful candidate will have demonstrated proficiency in the following areas:


	electric machine, and numerical modelling of electromagnetic field
	mathematical model order reduction and uncertainty propagation modelling
	programming skills (ability to code in Fortran and Matlab are appreciated)
	strong command of written and spoken English

Scientific environment

The Computational Electromechanics Group (Electromechanics | Aalto University) conducts research on electric machines and the related numerical simulation of the electromagnetic field for model order reduction, optimization, and fault diagnosis. Our core competence is the development of advanced numerical methods for coupled electromagnetic problems with thermal or mechanical problems. We actively collaborate with the industry and have exhaustive experimental capabilities for material characterisation and validation of the developed methods. Our research is highly cited by other researchers and is being utilized by our industrial partners.

The Computational Electromechanics Group is leading and coordinating the CoE in High-Speed Electromechanical Energy Conversion Systems (The HiECSs Centre of Excellence | Aalto University). The world is being electrified at unparalleled pace, from transport to industrial processes and complete energy systems. As a result, there is an incomparable need for energy-, material-, and cost-efficient electric machines and powertrains. The CoE brings together the key experts in this area.

We offer

The expected starting salary for a Postdoctoral Researcher is approximately 4000 €/month and salary will increase with responsibilities and performance over time. The fixed term contract is initially for two years, with an optional extension of two additional years. The annual workload of research and teaching staff at Aalto University is currently 1612 hours.
