The University of Shiga Prefecture is a public university in Hikone, Shiga, Japan. It was chartered as a university in 1995.

The campus is located near Lake Biwa, the largest freshwater lake in Japan. The lake regualrly features in Japanese literature, particularly in poetry and in historical accounts of battles.

There are five schools: the school of environmental science, the school of engineering, the school of human culture, the department of life design, and the school of nursing.

There are also four graduate schools: the environmental science graduate course, the engineering graduate course, the human cultural studies graduate course and the human nursing science graduate course.

The university has agreements with universities in Mongolia, the US, China and South Korea.

There are a number of sports clubs at the university including volleyball, basketball, tennis, badminton, judo, rowing, swimming and golf. The orchestra at the university holds an annual autumn concert in Hikone Cultural Plaza.

Two festivals are held throughout the year. The first is the School Festival, which usually happens in November and centres around students actively engaging with the environment. The second festival is the summer festival held in late May and aims to encourage engagement with the local community.
