Established in 2009, Yenepoya University is located in the south Indian city of Mangalore, in the state of Karnataka.
It is a deemed to be university, meaning it has been given accreditation with university status by the Department of Higher Education
Its motto, "Rabbi Zidni Ilma", translates to "O Lord! Increase me in knowledge".
The university includes eight institutes: a dental college, a pharmacy college and research centre, a medical college, a nursing college, a physiotherapy college, an ayurveda medical college and hospital, a homeopathic medical college and hospital, and the institute of arts, science, commerce and management.
The Centre for Ethics conducts structured academic programmes in areas such as bioethics and medical ethics, clinical ethics and environmental ethics. It also hosts the Yenepoya University Ethics Committee.
Yenepoya Medical College, which is part of the university, is situated on the outskirts of the city of Derkalatte. It was established in 1999, with postgraduate courses commencing in 2005. It houses the bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery courses, which take five and a half years to complete, including one year in a compulsory internship as is standard across the whole of India.
The dental college course runs for five years, including a one-year internship. There are more than 300 dental chairs at the college.
The grounds include landscaped gardens and a rainwater harvesting pond spread over 2.5 acres which replenishes the ground water in and around the campus and nurtures a variety of flora and fauna.
The sports complex includes floodlit basketball courts, volleyball courts, badminton and squash courts, a gymnasium, and a 150-seat cinema.
