Amity University has been given permission by India’s Ministry of Human Resources Development (HRD) to award degrees via its London campus, at which some degrees are validated by Anglia Ruskin University.
Amity’s campus is already up and running in Bedford Square, central London.
Non-profit Amity, India’s first private university, is known for its high-profile sponsorship in Indian Premier League cricket.
The HRD ministry has said any degree to be awarded through the “said off-shore campus in United Kingdom shall distinctly and prominently distinguish itself from the degree certificate awarded by AmityUniversity, Noida, Uttar Pradesh, for all its programmes conducted/offered in India”, the Times of India reported.
It has added that “degree certificates to be awarded in respect of the academic programme of the off-shore shall clearly bear the name of the off-shore campus”.
Atul Chauhan, Amity’s chancellor, told the newspaper: “Being an off-shore campus of an Indian university, the degrees will be very much Indian. There is no other possibility. “What the ministry has written is that for the sake of employment in certain professions in India the students [graduating from Amity in London] will be deemed as if they obtained a foreign degree.”
