Times Higher Education’s Africa Universities Forum 2019 will be held in partnership with the University of Johannesburg in June.

The event, which brings together higher education leaders from across the continent, will focus on the theme: “Universities powering Africa’s renaissance for the fourth industrial revolution”. It will take place on 12 and 13 June 2019.

Speakers and delegates will assess the institutional leadership required to foster higher education excellence; explore how diversification of the African academy can prepare graduates for the future; discuss how the arts and humanities can play a central role in Africa’s renaissance over the next 30 years; and debate the accuracy and relevance of international performance metrics to African higher education.

It will also feature a data masterclass to examine the latest THE data on the performance of African universities.

The event will hear from leaders of several African universities, including Tshilidzi Marwala, vice-chancellor and principal of the University of Johannesburg; Phil Cotton, vice-chancellor of the University of Rwanda; Abel Idowu Olayinka, vice-chancellor of the University of Ibadan; and Linah Mohohlo, chancellor of the University of Botswana.

Other confirmed speakers include Nelson Torto, executive director of the African Academy of Sciences; Jo Beall, professorial research fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science; and Angina Parekh, deputy vice-chancellor (academic) at the University of Johannesburg.
