The precariousness of part-timers

<ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ class="standfirst">More than half of part?time academic staff are on fixed-term contracts, compared with only a quarter of those who work full-time, a new report has revealed

Only 28,000, or 44?per cent, of higher education¡¯s 63,000 part?time academics had permanent contracts in the 2012-13 academic year. By contrast 92,000, or 75 per cent, of the 123,000 academics working full-time in higher education held permanent positions, according to the Equality Challenge Unit¡¯s annual Equality in Higher Education: Statistical Report 2014.

The report, published on 18 November, revealed that 80 per cent of part-time and 88?per cent of full-time support staff had permanent contracts.
