THE World Academic Summit 2018 heads to Singapore

<ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ class="standfirst">Times Higher Education¡¯²õ flagship event will return to the Asian city state for its fifth edition

Times Higher Education¡¯²õ World Academic Summit 2018 will be held in partnership with the National University of Singapore (NUS) next September.

The event, which brings together senior university, government and industry leaders in one of the most prestigious gatherings of its kind in the world, will focus on the theme: ¡°The transformative power of research: advancing knowledge, driving economies, building nations¡±. It will take place from 25-27 September 2018.

The summit will follow on from the success of this year¡¯²õ flagship event, which took place at King¡¯²õ College London this week and was attended by more than 450 senior leaders from 52 countries.

ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ

Key discussions at next year¡¯²õ summit will cover the role of research universities in creating new knowledge,?research-based entrepreneurship as a driver of growth,?industry and government partnerships, and the rise of Asian universities.

Participants will hear from leaders of some of the world¡¯²õ top universities, including: Brian Schmidt, Nobel laureate and vice-chancellor of the Australian National University; Lino Guzzella, president of ETH Zurich ¨C Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich; Stephen Toope,?incoming vice-chancellor of the University of Cambridge; Devang Khakhar, director of the?Indian Institute of Technology Bombay; Peretz Lavie, president of?Technion Israel Institute of Technology; and Tan Chorh-Chuan, president of the National University of Singapore.

Other confirmed speakers include Isaac Ben-Israel, chair of Israel¡¯²õ National Council for Research and Development; Tan Eng Chye, president designate and deputy president of academic affairs at NUS; and Lily Chan, CEO of NUS Enterprise.

The summit will include the official worldwide launch of the THE World University Rankings 2019 with?Phil Baty, THE¡¯²õ?editorial director of global rankings.

THE¡¯²õ inaugural World Academic Summit in 2013 was held in Singapore at Nanyang Technological University. Since then, the flagship conference has been hosted in Australia, the US and the UK.

More speakers will be announced in the coming months.
