Times Higher Education will run its first event dedicated to research excellence in July.
The THE Research Excellence Summit ¨C Asia Pacific 2017 will be hosted at China Medical University, Taiwan from 3 to 5 July and will explore how universities can develop successful research strategies.
Chen Chien-jen, the vice-president of Taiwan, will open the event, which will also feature the?launch of the first THE ranking of the best universities in the Asia Pacific.

Jeffrey J. O. Tsai, president of Asia University, Taiwan, will deliver a keynote speech on establishing a young and dynamic university, while Alan Lau, pro vice-chancellor of research performance and development at Swinburne University of Technology, will explore how a university¡¯s research strategy can drive success in world university rankings.
Meanwhile, Caroline McMillen, vice-chancellor of the University of Newcastle will discuss successful East-West university partnerships with Sinn-Wen Chen, vice-president of National Tsing Hua University, and Wen-Hwa Lee, chancellor of China Medical University, Taiwan, will speak about developing a global and distinct research university.

The event will also include a panel discussion on government policies to support research excellence with executive chair of the Resolution Foundation and former UK minister for universities and science Lord David Willetts.
Meng-Hwa Er, vice-president (international affairs) at Nanyang Technological University, will be leading a panel discussion about how universities can develop a thriving research culture.
Summit delegates will be given a rankings masterclass from Phil Baty, editor of the THE World University Rankings.
