How can universities prove their value to society? What are the best ways to measure impact? And how can higher education solve the world¡¯s most pressing challenges?
Peter Mathieson, vice-chancellor of the University of Hong Kong, speaks to Times Higher Education about these issues and explains how Hong Kong is learning from the UK¡¯s experience of measuring research impact.
The interview was recorded at the THE Innovation and Impact Summit, which took place in Hong Kong earlier this month.
During a summit session, Professor Mathieson spoke about how his university has ¡°engineered¡± an interdisciplinary approach to research through a ¡°radical reform¡± of funding.
He added that universities should ¡°involve students¡± in designing curricula and in decisions around the delivery of teaching.
